My best guess is someone said, "hey chatgpt, write me a tahquitz guidebook." but this isn't the only book so maybe someone automated some kind of AI based guide book business. so beware of any other books, they share similar cover designs. i have not looked into Jean W. Bass, I googled once i think there is a dentist in palm springs by the same name? prolly not even the same person.

Are you a fledgling or halfway climber? Perhaps you don't have a climbing bridle and chalk sack? Perhaps you also need a GPS gadget and a climate appropriate dress? Don't forget your ID and climbing grant. Or garbage sacks for your leave no follow rehearses. Finally remember your leave no follow place for open air morals.

Collect the whole series as there are about a dozen of them.

Watch out for JTree's occasional terminations.

Reading the sample pages on Amazon cracked me up!

Might be well worth the money for the amusement and laughs you'll get out of it. I think AI was told not to plagiarize, so the words were changed to be oddly synonymous.

Gotta love 'American game climbing' in a 'lowering and invigorating' setting.

Wow, almost as good as Joe Kelsey's satirical 'Gunks guidebook' from the mid-60s!!! Who knew that AI could be that funny!!!!

Another tick in the column of AI malfeasance.

Isn’t this the Hinterstoisser Traverse? Sure ain’t Fingertip Traverse…

I’d love to know how many of these are actually sold…

Sure looks like a classic photo of the Hinterstoisser from the 1930s---look at the ice axe!!!! Though, who knows, maybe was a day of 'full conditions' at Tahquitz!!!!

i did a reverse image search of the cover on tineye and got this website:

https://coole.prebenelkjaer.com/klettern-bilder-schwarz-weiss

"Eiger Nordwand Durchsteigung Mit Typ Ausrustung Eisklettern Outdoor Ereignis Eiger North Face" translated in to: "Eiger North Face Climb With Type Equipment Ice Climbing Outdoor Event Eiger North Face"

I'm not sure about the photo on the left of the cover. I'm wondering what photos the AI chooses and how it works around rights/ownership.

That photo *might* be on Tahquitz, but it also kinda looks like Tuolumne...or a range of other possibilities...hard to tell.

You all are confused. That picture is not from the Nordwand but the Mordwand

Looks like that photo on the left side of the cover was lifted straight off Mountain Project! From the photos of Upper Royal's Arch.

Perhaps someone should just click "report an issue" on Amazon and link this thread? There are many of these Jean W Bass guides, and all seem to be the same AI garbage.

Good sleuthing Bob. I will send them a note as that could be a copyright violation.

Their reporting tool is crap. It will take someone who holds the IP to file. Which thanks to Bob we have.

As usual, your encyclopedic eye comes through, Bob.

Well, at least they got *one* of the images right…wonder how MP is gonna feel about that…

As far as I can see AI is fucking up the world and humans far more than helping.

I get the climate shift thing but Maine isn't quite there yet. Ha
