Hey Everyone,

Curious if people have any cool examples (or pics) of boulders where the boulder type is very different from either the surrounding bedrock (cliffs, ground etc.) or if there are several different boulder rock types in the same area??

Best spot I can think of are the boulders in El Chalten that are perfect granite but sitting on the metamorphic cliffs/bedrock.

Sinks canyon isn’t quite what your asking but over two miles it has the largest diversity of rock I have ever seen.

In Washington, an area known as Sims Corner Eskers and Kames contains at least 3 types of erratics. Granite boulders and various metamorphic sit beside basalt rock. It's basically where giant erratics trapped in icebergs (not glaciers) from the missoula floods washed onto the hillside and deposited these stones.

It's an NNL so might be private property, and preservation is their whole deal but Im really not sure.

Not sure if I have. Is it different from the rest of Pisgah/hor? haha I guess when I usually go there I'm looking at the ice rather than the rocks!

This is in Madison, NH. It is considered the largest known glacial erratic in North America.

I remember a story about some crusher farmboy from Alberta learning to climb on one of these.

This one is located in the English village of my birth - a very long way from any mountains:
