Yeah, you can tick it.

YOU ARE NOT THE MP TICKING AUTHORITY

I don't really have a dog in this fight,
oh shit, not Michael Vic or anything.
OK, I don't have a rooster in this...
Look, I don't give a hoot but a tick means you successfully did a route.

You finished it.

It need not be a clean ascent and you can add that detail in your comment.

Manage you mpoj list however you like. As long as when Alpinist Magazine calls you and you are honest about the nature of your ascent of the  5.9+ in question.

If I made it up the route, w/o totally flailing but determined that the send was beyond my ability and I am done with it,  I will tick and use Fell/Hung option— usually with a brief explanatory note. Hopefully, a better usually younger climber can use that info directly or indirectly to send it. I worked a route called Shady  Proposition at Rushmore  this summer to the point where there was only one move that I couldn’t get clean and consistently aided. Determined that move at the second bulge was beyond me. As long as I am honest that I didn’t redpoint, not sure why I shouldn’t post my experience with that route? This is a sharing site...

How else can people tick Chinal Doll free? I mean if you free the first 5.9 pitch you obviously sent china doll. Really though I think that's the funniest tick page on the proj.

If you finished it, sure!

Say you had a big plane with Twinkie stickers on the side showing how many you ate. Now, if you didn't finish a whole one and threw the rest out, would you paint another Twinkie on your plane? How could you fly your liar plane, then?

I could care less about who "ticks" what on their own page. What I find a little annoying is when you click on the route statistics page, and the same person fills the whole top half of ascents, listing each and every unsuccessful burn they took on it separately. It would be a nice feature if MP only showed a person's most recent tick on the route stats page. Your personal page could still have your tick diary of what you ate for lunch on your 7th TR burn of the day, and how you used your index finger instead of your middle finger in the mono on your 8th attempt.

MP has the "pitches/laps" feature to solve this but some people annoyingly clutter the tick list.

This is the reason I made this post!  Thanks for all the replies and input.

Why are you looking at ticks on a climb at all?

I've always assumed people are looking at ticks hoping to find super specific beta, perhaps including what to eat for lunch. Otherwise I'm not sure what the point is.

The point was, I was looking at ice routes to see if they'd been climbed yet this season. Satisfied?
