Define "local"

I consider myself a North American local, and someday...maybe when the kids are grown, I'll be an Earth local. |
|
Can you be a local in more than one area at the same time? Do you have to forfeit local status when applying for local status in another arena, like a drivers license? It occurs to me that it is better to be a welcomed humble frequent visitor to many areas than an inbred, aggro, bitter "LOCAL" trying to hold on to the trophy's of their past. Here on Maui we have different degrees of local and that pretty much determines where you get to surf. |
|
If you support and maintain the crags, work on trails, clean up after the others, and contribute to good policy and maintenece of the place and have a great knowledge of it, you are a local. |

A local doesn't need a guidebook or to be told where to eat in town. |
|
Man, I can't believe you guys have had such bad experiences with locals. Are you guys only climbing in colorado?! |

To all the CO haters, the original post was about Indian Creek UTAH! I'm the biggest goofball in the State and since 1990 I have never gotten any attitude anywhere. It seems that the haters spreading hate seem to be the ones that should look in the mirror for their problem. A bad attitude goes a long way. |

What was it Hank ?- never ask someone if they are from texas, If they are they will tell ya soon enough and if not , no sense embarrassing them . I used to frequent Cathedral Ledge in NH 4 days a week and my climbing partner had a house so close to the cliff it would been hit with any rockfall but we were not "locals" john |

The place we stayed though was as close to Cathedral Ledge as you could imagine. You could hit it with a BB gun from the back porch. I wish I remember the guy that opened his house to us. It was magnificent. North Conway was beautiful! |

Parrot is a monster ! Great guy and SOOOOO good. Of course a lot of those "old' guys were kinda hidden talents, Kurt Winkler, Steve Larsen etc , etc. |

In ski towns, a local is the one all the dudes want to fight, and none of the women will talk to. |

I wouldn't have as much a problem with texans if they would just move more of their women up here -- so they could kick the snot out of all the californian-based-self-righteous-soccermommies that swap out spouses at the drop of a hat but won't put out for the locals.. |
|
Good local: someone who wants to be friendly or helpful--if the "target" wants the help. |
|
Buff Johnson wrote:I wouldn't have as much a problem with texans if they would just move more of their women up hereYou can bash Texas all you want. but my State is freakishly packed with hot women. The kicker is, they are the most friendly I've ever met, unless you cross them. When was the last time you were checking out some free live music and some hottie you never met walks up and hands YOU a Lone Star Longneck? (that's a beer by the way). |

Ski town snobs have a term for non-locals: "Gapers" |
|
Yes Boulderites, unless you are at Eldora, you too are Gapers - just ask a "local" - the entire front range is Gaper-city. |
|
It is kinda funny how most of the rest of Colorado does not like Boulder. Just go to a restaraunt in Breckenridge and blurt out "we're from Boulder" all happy like to the server. Your food will show up in an hour or so. |
