I would guess the over 50 demographic includes a fair number of people who've had cataract surgery so I'm curious about peoples experiences with recovery time. Online recommendations from different providers seem to vary widely as do definitions of what constitutes moderate/strenuous exercise. The American Academy of Ophthalmology says jogging is OK in 7 to 10 days. Moderate roped climbing seems to be about the same intensity but there doesn't seem to be much info about it out there.

"Recommendations on physical activity restriction vary widely among surgeons . . . there are no evidence-based data for these recommendations."

Should be the Thread Byline, lol.

And yes, I'm feeling the race to winter has begun.

“I think it’s going to require a little bit less navel-gazing and a little less whining and being in fetal positions. And it’s going to require Democrats to just toughen up,” Obama said in remarks at a private fundraiser Friday in New Jersey, according to excerpts obtained by The Hill.

“Don’t tell me you’re a Democrat, but you’re kind of disappointed right now, so you’re not doing anything. No, now is exactly the time that you get in there and do something,” he said.

Spot on. All of the terrible things that have happened since November...mass firings that result in miniscule 'efficiency' improvements...deportations without due process...trying to shut down the Department of Education...pushing well beyond the limits of constitutional presidential power...just plain shitty attitude as a leader of this country...on and on...all of this has happened for the simple reason that a slight majority of Americans voted for it, most knowing very well what they were voting for.

As the saying goes, elections have consequences, and all of this is a consequence of not having an attractive enough alternative for those ~2.7 million voters that swayed that election. The only way of out this hellhole is for leadership to step forward with a truly inspired vision that addresses actual needs of the voters and is intelligent and charismatic enough to convey this platform- this is the only real chance of pushing back towards something more rational. And at this point, I see virtually nothing on the horizon that remotely resembles this. This 'winter' continues to be a long, dark, cold one.

Obviously, developing "...a truly inspired vision that addresses actual needs of the voters...", is not exactly a simple task, let alone an achievable one---and that's assuming that these days 'the voters', or even a majority of them, share the same perceived 'needs'.

Compared to this task, finding someone "intelligent and charismatic enough" to convey such a message should be much easier to accomplish.

I haven’t chimed in much on politics on this thread. Let’s just say it has…uh… been “interesting” to watch from overseas what is going on back home. It has been very hard to explain to folks around here. My Spanish citizenship just came through so I guess I have options. (And not saying Spain is a perfect country either. It has its serious issues as well.)

Wouldn't surprise me at all, that there are plenty of folks there who are 'nostalgic' for the 'good old Franco days'!!!!

yah but that's when we actually followed the definition of Fascist...  now it's just if you don't agree with progressives you're a fascist

Man, if a political party can't communicate an inspired vision that addresses the actual needs of voters, it has a serious problem. Democrats need to stop the progressive purity tests that drove away so much of their voting constituency right into the hands of Trump. Dems have always been the Party of cat herding, and only seem to be able to coalesce when someone is at least charismatic enough to inspire others (Kennedy, Clinton, Obama). This is essentially the same kind of personality politics that each side loves to hate, but always gravitates towards (Trump is the latest version). Dems like to think they are the Party of 'facts' (which is arguable as a whole), but they are just as influenced by the emotional connection they find with a candidate as any other Party.

Lori. Are you ok? Been quiet lately.  To busy and Isa is in Maine so no climbing on this end.  Jim. When you have masked gunmen rounding up people with no due process putting them in cages it's pretty fucking clear.

That's my opinion. And a charismatic figure must resist the pull exerted by the far left with their loony ideas. To make political posts on this thread meaningful start discussing possible potential leaders of the Dem party. I like John Fetterman, but his stroke and centrist positions make him problematic. However, he and I dress alike these days and that means a lot!

Masked LEO/Federal officers is a direct reaction to masked antifa leftist trying to dox officers and attempting to target their families.  Funny you see the same thing happening inmost countries in south america dealing with drug cartels.

Antifa/black block have been waging a Kristallnacht campaign for how many years now?

But if this "due process" argument is all you can throw, I can bring up lack of due process on everyone involved with 6JAN y'all's favorite insurrection/trespassing event (e.g. suppression of evidence to start). then we've got previous admin suppressing free-speech (e.g. Twitter files scandal, laptop from hell scandal), vax mandates (it's only "my body my choice" if you want to kill a baby I guess), how about the lack of any actual democratic process to select your failed D candidate... then we got wire tapping a political candidate's office or applying a completely double standard to storage of classified materials.   mmmmm sounds pretty fascist and authoritarian to me.

Always love the use of the word "people" vs US citizens... gotta have them priorities though...

until your party moves back towards classical liberalism (ala Bill Maher ish) y'all are gonna walking in the desert..."chasing the man in black" (*)

Interesting you want us to be like south America.  I suspect the masking has more to do with the fact that they know they are doing illegal and immoral shit.

Hey Nick… I’m ok. Thanks for asking.  Just taking a little break.

I’ve been on the road a bit, visiting water, swimming, soaking.  I got to have pancakes with two of my grandkids.  I went on a hunt for apricots, planning on buying a case from the Sacto co-op so I could do some canning.  They happened to be out, so I’ll try to grab some at our Farmer’s Market on Saturday.  For some reason I’ve been thinking about Jan’s garden, mainly because I don’t have one, and I think he grows patty pan squash, which I love.

And I stopped by Pipeworks.  I hated the idea of a climbing gym, but really…. This sure kept me in shape.  The one we had close to Joshua Tree closed the week we moved there.  5.9

And… something kind of weird… I got to wondering about the house we moved to from So Cal in 1996.  In a tiny town, Pilot Hill.  The thing was nearly 5000 sq feet, sitting on a hill in the Sierra foothills… floor to ceiling windows on all sides, and a pool.  It was a radical move, sight unseen.  The owner needed some kind of steady income, so he rented it to us for a song.  All wood floors.  Crazy beautiful.  But I recalled the owner was arrested shortly after we moved out, and I think he lost the property.  His idea of entertainment was to fight with his llama on Friday nights, drunk… and he usually lost,  Anyway, I hadn’t seen it in 25 years.  So, I drove out there, started heading up the steep private road, saw the main road was overgrown and unpassable, and the house was covered in trees and shrubs,  vines, looked completely abandoned.  The pool was empty.  I just got the creepy feeling about it, turned around… never got to the place.  Google Earth showed it looking desolate.  I don’t think it’s been inhabited for years.  What happens to b place valued at $1,000,000 when the owner bails on and it goes to seed?

It’s just kinda on my mind.  Things die.  They fade away.  Speaking of winter….

Nice to hear from you both, Lori and Guy! Lori, are you thinking of moving??

I got out on Easy O with Bill this morning. We started around 9 AM, almost no one there. Pretty hot already.

Here's Bill just before the crux on P2. Yeah that's blue sky, haven't seen it in a while.

We saw a toad on the trail, and a snail on the wall.

I tried to rescue the snail. But it was determined to stay on the wall. Good luck, little one!
