Have you ever ran into Craig Demartino in Golden? He used to help at Movement with some of the adaptive climbing events. I don't think hes in the area anymore but i'm pretty sure he and his wife live there or have a spot there and climb a ton in PR. His IG is @craigdem. Super cool guy and he might be able to give you some beta!

I’m sure Eli will chime in at some point but my two favorite spots so far are Pasillo Frio and Flying Coconut.

I’m a local in PR, feel free to contact me for any info on climbing on the island. Our MP page speaks for itself mostly but I can serve as a belay partner and give my knowledge of climbing here.

If you want to stay close to San Juan you can’t do better than Monagas(Bayamon) (~20 mins from airport), most of the walls are always shaded with plenty of easy and moderates routes and some hard classics.

Cerro Las Tetas (Cayey) with normal traffic is not quite an hour, just a bit more same goes for Caliche(Ciales). Both start going into the shade around 12-1pm, very easy to have a beach to crag day for both. Cerro las tetas is all easy and moderates with two or three classics at the 5.11+ 5.12- range. Caliche would be the place to be in Ciales, has the best grade range out of the three crags (5.7-5.13b) and a 7 minute approach.

Also same distance as Ciales from San Juan is this new crag, Meseta Fronti(Arecibo). We have been developing it since August and been taking people as we go and people have liked it so far. More moderates than easy and no really hard lines yet since we are trying to fill up the wall first.

The highlight of the island is Pasillo Frio (Juana Diaz) and should not be missed! Its only about 1 more hour of total driving(1 hour 30 min from san juan). This will be the best crag for any visitors at any grade range. You stay shaded all day with better temperatures than the north crags due to higher altitude. Grade range 5.7- 5.13-.

Be wary of everyone saying Flying Coconut, I find that most people recommending the crag did not sample anymore rock on the island because they fell for the monopolistic marketing so its just a skewed opinion of “I did this and enjoyed it so you should too” instead of an informed recommendation. I’ve been consistently climbing outside two days a week on the island for 3 years, you can let me know where you’re headed and I can curate a list of routes for a day of climbing at any level and would also be more than happy to get out to any crag with you.
