Can you paint stainless steel glue-ins?

I don't see why not, but just thought I'd ask the Æther. Can you spray paint the end of stainless steel glue-in bolts? Specifically Wave or Twist bolts? Assuming you leave the part that touches the glue unpainted... Asking for a friend of a friend |

Yes Source: done it |

I slide them through holes in a cardboard box to paint the exposed/eye portion. Glue doesn’t adhere to the metal so probably wouldn’t matter if paint was on the imbedded portion, but it still sketches me out. I have had complaints with wave and the 6mm twist that they are too hard to see when painted. |

Here are some wave bolts I painted. First I used a layer of expired aerospace primer (yellow) i got from my work, then just some rustoleum brown spray paint. They're virtually invisible from the ground so only really good for the stealthiest of climbing areas |

Sure, It doesn't stick very well to the smooth surface and will probably partially flake off with any amount of use. Non-electro polished 6mm or 1/4" stock bolts are pretty well camo'ed naturally due to their low profile and rounded nature, especially when compared with traditional bolt hangers. You can get wave bolts with a matte finish now, and of course twist bolts. You're mileage may vary depending on rock color, but most rock types the bolts tend to disappear if you're more than 20 feet from them. Heat coloring has been mentioned here as an option here as well if you want to search back for this info. |

here's a video I made on heat tinting |
