Cities with outdoor climbing in the world
|
Tapei, Kuala Lampur, Hong Kong come to mind. What other cities offer the vibrancy if a CITY with rock climbing access in city limits as well? |
|
Cape Town and Rio de Janeiro |
|
Bristol. Glasgow? Geneva comes very close (Salève). |

Indian Rock Park ,Berkeley , California |

Might need to better define the pop size you are talking about when you say "city". City limits can also be very ambiguous and misleading in some metro areas. NYC has some boulders inside the city limits. So does Boston and if you expand it to the metro area, there are quite good boulders in Lynn. |

Chatsworth, Bishop, New York, London and Paris…. I’m sure there are more |

We also need some "city" criteria, I mean the largest city in the world by area is Nuuk in Greenland, it covers an area 83% the size of Texas, But only 25,000 people live there. Palermo for sure. |

I'd suggest Las Vegas, its sprawled enough now to be included. But you'll need a car or uber. |

I think the "measure" of access should be "easy access by public transportation or bicycle on your lunch hour OR can drive to climbing on your lunch hour or after work--less than 30 minute drive during rush hour conditions." I suggest this because "within city limits" doesn't help me pick a place to live/visit. By this new measure: Boulder, Boston, Worcester, Grand Junction, Golden, Laramie, SLC, parts of Vegas, Honesdale, would open up. Is Chamonix a city? |

I am lookimg for major cities, with outdoor. Climbing. Bouldering is not climbing, lol. Bishop is far from a city. And yes within city limits, excluding places like Worcester, since Leominster is a bit far out. |

Check out Bolzano https://www.thecrag.com/it/arrampicata/italy/alto-adige/zona-bolzano-e-bassa-atesina |

Mexico City. escuelita (unam campus), remedios, ehecatl, los dinamos. Maybe none world class but much city, much accessible. Los Dinamos is edge of the city but the best of them and has ongoing route development. |

Here in Ōtautahi Christchurch! Only about 500,000 people in the metro area though, so may be too small for your criteria. Plenty of city amenities though, as it’s the second largest population centre in NZ. https://porthillsclimbing.nz/ |

I lived in Arequipa, Peru for a bit with walkable access to some decent rope climbing and short drive to more. 2nd biggest city in Peru with 1 million pop. |

Portland, Oregon has Broughton, Madrone, Rocky Butte, and Carver inside city limits. You can get there with public transportation or depending on where you live, you can bike there. Makes it super easy for an after/before work session. |
