Dogs to not be allowed off leash at Indian Creek?
|

Yep, you read that right. The newly proposed Resource Management Plan state on page 160 that:
The plan also includes some ambiguous language for an approval process for establishing new routes. It also includes a plan to not allow dispersed camping within 0.5 miles of developed recreation sites (dispersed camping near Hamburger Rock would go away). There are some limits that would be placed on OHV travel as well. The plan would also prohibit recreational shooting, unless in the case of lawful pursuit of game. I encourage folks who climb in the Creek to take a good look at it. There is a pretty thorough discussion here, but posting to the general climbing forum to increase visibility. |

Big talk. Now let's see it be enforced. If it's anything like EVERY OTHER AREA I'VE EVER CLIMBED at, there's a rule, but it's NEVER enforced. |

Sounds fair to me now that it's an international destination |

Bruno's not gonna like this. |

My crag dog is the best crag dog and he shall not be leashed by the government. Just kidding, well kidding about the not leashed part, he is the best, his name is Bodie. Say hi when you see us down there.

Click bait title to get the dog nazis all worked up and frothing, but y'all should read up on the other restrictions proposed in this package. |

Also no fires outside of fire rings/fire pans, even in dispersed sites |

What if I am using my dog to hunt unlawfully off leash dogs? |

Sounds great!!! Dogs are a menace to a fragile, peaceful desert environment. |

Took long enough. I know they won't enforce it but at least now I have something more substantial to back my griping with when I see dogs running amok in the crypto. Curious to see how the other proposals will impact our access, but at least this is one positive. |

leave ur dogs at home......selfish people trying to make themselves feel better by including their little buddy that will get in eveyone's way as the owner says, "the dog is a really nice one", as it charges forward at you on a small trail and well if ya just left the damn pet at home there would be NO problems at the crags......Pretty simple... |

What if your dog is actually nice? |

I have no problem with some of the mentioned restrictions like a camping ban near established campgrounds, no recreational shooting etc. the place is just too busy now to have totally hands off management strategy given the delicate nature of the ecosystem. Dogs on leashing also doesn't bother me. This is the same for me as the parking lot at supercrack: the need is very clear and most of the opposition is actually not soberly against the parking lot as a management or preservation tactic, but hand wringing that the place you knew and loved is now very different. That is sad, but it's misguided to fight those feelings by obstructing necessary accommodations for the now-large numbers. The facts are what they are and need to be dealt with regardless of how we feel about those facts. I feel the same about the restrictions mentioned in the plan. BIG HOWEVER: if we are doing this stuff in the name of conservation, it would be great to see work put toward more infrastructure like toilets. I know this isn't a real negotiation since pit toilets are expensive to maintain and saying "no camping here" is free, but I think that should be fought for by us users. I would happily donate money specifically to that (on top of donations to FOIC) |

In a valley full of open range cattle, i love the idea that it's the dogs we need to worry about hurting the eco system |
