“Clip stick”, or “stick clip”?
So, which is it? Have at it, MP! ; ) (I’m thinking those who choose “clip stick” also mistakenly rack gates out and regularly go hands free with their Grigri.) |
I’m okay with hands free on a grigri |
I hear Brits say clip stick a lot. I've only heard stick clip in person from Americans, but I see old timers write clip stick sometimes. Usually with some befuddled curiosity. |
I occasionally stick clip with a clip stick. |
Of course it's a clip stick. The activity or medium goes first, the tool second. Like golf club, tennis racket, cattle prod, yard brush, ice axe, rock shoes, and climbing harness. Or do Americans call them harness climbings?! |
Is it a clip that sticks or a stick that clips? Obviously the latter. You stick clip with a clip stick. |
I figured this would be a fun one. Thumbs up, MP! |
I use a stick clip, rack gates out, and only go hands free when I’m in direct to your girlfriend. |
i say stick clip but clip stick makes much more sense |

Safety shaft. |

They are called "aid." Duh. |
Cheater stick. No offense meant. But that's what they were called and it rolls off the tongue. |

Climbing isn't supposed to make sense. 5.10 is mathematically ridiculous, you can walk to the top of most climbs, and stick clip is a noun as well as a verb. It's best not to think about it too hard. |
Interesting to me that "clip stick" is winning as the name for the thing. I never hear that in person. Is calling it a stick clip a West coast thing or newer generation of climber thing or something? |
No its the usual indication that the MP gestalt is less than the sum of its parts. |

Daniel Joderwrote: My kinda guy! Of course it’s stick clip. You stick it, then you clip it. 1.stick 2.clip Now if you want to call it a clipping stick, I’d be OK with it. |

Pansy Pole Fraud Rod (I use one regularly;-) But re: the original semantic brawl, I cringe at soul level anytime I hear "clipstick." Just like when someone refers to carabiners as "clips" or says they sent a route after hanging midway. |
