Climbers should not freesolo

Free soloing is just reckless and dangerous. Why take such unnecessary risks? It seems like these climbers just decide to go for it without any planning or thought. Why don't they just use ropes or gear all the time? It seems like they're just showing off by not using any safety equipment. Are they just doing it for the fame or attention? It seems like a way to show off. Why do they even bother with free soloing? Isn't it just for the thrill? Free soloists must be fearless adrenaline junkies.

Try harder, this is low hanging fruit.

Why?

I can understand some things people might say, like when it looks reckless you might say that while free soloing inherently involves a higher level of risk compared to roped climbing, some free soloists meticulously assess routes, rehearse climbs, and prioritize safety. However, the risk is still undeniable, and even the most skilled free soloists acknowledge the danger involved.

I assume that most free soloists acknowledge experiencing fear, but they have developed strategies to manage and overcome it. Their ability to control fear is often a key aspect of their mental preparation. But why would you even develop those strategies unless you're trying to show off?

Curious about your take on smoking and drinking.

Rock climbing requires a high level of physical fitness and stamina, and smoking is generally seen as detrimental to lung capacity and overall endurance. Hindering performance may not align well with the physical demands of climbing. Smoking and excessive drinking can impair cognitive function, affecting decision-making and coordination. Strong mental focus and concentration are critical elements in climbing. Climbing often involves managing risks, and climbers may be inclined to avoid activities that could compromise their well-being or increase the likelihood of accidents.

You joined Mountain Project almost three years ago and this shallow subject is your first post? Your future is bleak, young man.

Ha ha.  Good luck, Albert. Maybe back off and try to sneak back in at the padawan level?

Agree.  We have neglected how to weigh risk and consequences. In too many ways.  Inside and outside of climbing. Atrophied. Bot or no bot.

Taking the bait here. It’s an incredible selfish thing to do, whether that’s making the first responders clean your remains with a spatula, the perpetually scarred climbers who saw your fall, or to people who care about you. Much like suicide in my opinion it’s a sign of intense mental illness and selfishness. If you must, have your will written and place a tarp at the base of the crag, please.

Cool, but what if it feels good, like driving a car too fast on the interstate?

Yes, I frequently discuss my real person feelings in this manner.
