What's your 'comfort climb'?
|
|
Everybody's got those routes/boulders that they keep coming back to. The boulder problem in your home area you've used as a warm up for years, the route you use as a benchmark at the start of the season, the long mellow multipitch you take your friends up...whatever the case may be. What's that route for you? My comfort climbs: - Madame G's in the gunks was my favorite warm up in the world when I lived in NYC - The Nautilus Traverse in Morrison is my lunch break go-to and I've probably climbed it 60x at this point - The Graveyard in So Ill is my favorite little outdoor bouldering gym - I climb the same 5 problems (Skeleton, Formaldehyde, Broken, Leatherface, and RIP) every time I visit my family in STL - Bawl and Chain at Hueco is the perfect little head and fingers warm-up, and it sits right at the top of the chains on North Mountain. I'll climb that first thing of the day every time I'm there. |

Ed's Crack at the Voo. Short approach, cruiser hands, and a little offwidth action that's hard to get tired of. I could sit at the top all day and just enjoy the view, especially in the Fall with the aspens turning. Mmm mmm good! |

By way of a riddle: - While easy, the route is no cruise. However, it has a good view of one. - There's a quality three-pitch finish whose first forty feet is a good reason to own a Green Ghost. If you're board after the main climb, you can check 'er out. - While the FA was hard-core (sic), this is the most featherbagged route he ever established. - Despite that, I got benighted on this route in 2012. - You rappel 475' but only have to pull your rope once. |

Matt, I never knew that's where So Ill (the climbing gear company) got their name from until I read your post. I was reading it and I was like "what, So Ill has their own branded crag?" |

Waves-in the Rushmore area of South Dakota https://www.mountainproject.com/v/105714728 This was my first multi-pitch route. A guide took me up this the first day I ever went climbing back in 1994. I have taken several friends up this same climb many times. |
