No worries, conservative right. It's here to stay. |

caesar.saladwrote: With regard to Gator Pussy V10, I wonder what the redaction squad would make of Edward Lear's classic poem, "The Owl and the Pussycat." Quote: Oh Pussy, oh Pussy, oh Pussy my love, what a beautiful pussy you are, you are, you are. What a beautiful pussy you are. (I was raised listening to this as a bed time story along with "Wynken, Blynken, and Nod")....... |

This route was briefly and inexplicably redacted to "What's Going On With Pagan Mountaineering?" The redaction was an asinine work of milksop, lilly-livered bowdlerization. Fortunately, it has been reverted to its original glory, which is based on a true story of my good friend being [redacted] by [redacted] up and down his [redacted]. ;-) |

F r i t zwrote: I LOVE the original name of your route, Fritz! |

cassondra lwrote: Thanks! As far as Mike and I know, it's still awaiting a second ascent. Get on it before the lawyers do! (Actually, I can't recommend the route in good faith [or even bad faith, or downright heresy] to anyone. The biggest virtue [vice?] of that route is in the nomenclature. As compared to other routes in the area whose literary and escalatory qualities more closely align. Anyway, I should get off my self-aggrandizing high horse and get on my carbon fiber horse, because the only thing more insufferable than a "developer" pontificating about his or her own work is a bike commuter virtue signaling instead of turn signaling :-D |

No route names with "cracker" or "white" were redacted. |

PWZwrote: Are negative, race based names okay or not? Its all or nothing. |

grug gwrote: It’s all ok as long as you make sure to geotag the appropriate native land on social media. |

But an admin referring to users with differing viewpoints as “dickheads” is poor form. I’ve been here for 16 years, and this comment from an admin has done more to push me away from this site than any other I’ve read |

This thread is getting ugly - just like the original! |

Yes the minute the cancel culture gets push back its "off with their heads!" Well guess what 15-minutes-of-fame-cancel-culture... you're going to be cancelled, in turn. You'll get yours, and the little dog too!!! |

There should be a plan and a timeline to close out the redacted names. |

This topic has always been divisive in the forum and these days tends to attract the most engagement from critics of route name redaction, while deterring engagement from those who support or feel neutral about the work. We feel accountable to those of you speaking up in the forum and want to be transparent about this work, but with the ultimate goal of serving the broader community of climbers. Our processing of flagged route names hasn't been rapid, in part because we saw the complexity and opted not to rush in. What that means though is that we have ultimately arrived at a considered perspective on how to balance the different viewpoints involved, and aren't going to re-litigate the decision not to publish all route names in their original form. Here are some key points on our current status: 1. onX has implemented this process to review and decide on flagged route names. We expect to finish the current backlog in early 2024. So far, our reviews have upheld the original name in the majority of cases 2. While we work, there will continue to be names in limbo status – both unredacted names that will be redacted and currently redacted names that will ultimately be unredacted. 3. The number of flagged names is a small percentage of all route names on Mountain Project - around 2%. And the number of redacted route names is a small percentage of those flagged route names. 4. Community input is a pillar of our process, helping inform the serious decisions around which terms get redacted and which don't. For example, there are some route names referencing white people that will be redacted and some that won't, which reflects the reality that the community responds to each name differently based on the web of meaning present. 5. Yes, we will inform the individual who posted the route and try to contact the FA when we opt to change the status of a route name. 6. Admins can provide additional context to inform (or reverse) route names decisions, but they are not the final decision makers on which route names are accepted. |

grug gwrote: False. The boulder problem "Cracker Boy" at Black Mountain, Ca was redacted ages ago. |
