The Changelog : July 2023

Hey all, we will but updating the Mountain Project News forum to help keep you informed of the development roadmap at onXmaps for Mountain Project and other Adventure Projects. Allow me to introduce myself, I'm Dwayne, a software engineer at onX and climbing was my first real intro into mountain sports. Mountain Project was a large part of what enabled that, and I've been itching to work on the website since I started working at onX. You may have seen me commenting in the forums as we've made progress working on the apps, usually in response to bugs, spam, or other things. I also worked to help mitigate the CBD Gummies spam and even though it's not 100% gone we are far better than we were, and we are continuing to work to improve our spam blocking. It takes time, effort, and resources to work on Mountain Project. I'm stoked to be able to be a part of a team who finds time for that and an organization that allows it. It's not just an assignment from a manager or a company directive. It's a contribution. Sometimes it may be a rainy weekend or a slow afternoon. It's an opportunity to give back to a community and that means so much. All that to say, we're working on Mountain Project because we are passionate about what it is and what it stands for. Mountain Project is going to change and for the better. We want you to be a part of that conversation and we wanna do a better job communicating future changes to you. The community is part of what makes Mountain Project so powerful. We want to make sure that the community has access to what they need to get out, explore and continue thriving. We will be updating this forum regularly with changes we are rolling out. Please stay tuned and join the conversation. Over the past month we worked on a few improvements to the web site.

Hey Dwayne, appreciate your work on MP. I was checking out the "Classic Climbs" feature for some areas and it seems like it's totally whack now... For instance in American Fork, several of the most popular routes aren't on that list anymore (40 oz to Freedom, Algorithm) but some way more obscure routes are in their place. Just wondering if fixing one thing broke another. Thanks! |

https://www.mountainproject.com/area/classics WTF is Verticualidad? Seven votes, five of them as two stars?? |

The classic climbs lists are still pretty wonky in most all places. This is the feature I use the most on this site, so I'm pretty tuned into it. It's super helpful when visiting or planning on visiting a new place. Here are some other threads on it: https://www.mountainproject.com/forum/topic/124654543/mp-top-1020#ForumMessage-124658478 |

Brian Prince wrote: Thanks Brian, do you have any areas with routes in particular that feel far off? Some examples would be helpful for trouble shooting. We've made a few improvements over the last few weeks to help improve this. This addressed some issues where specifically routes like 40oz to Freedom in American Fork Canyon were being push out by little known new routes. We adjusted the algorithm to fix that. |
