Multipitch where you can meet hikers at the top
|
|
Looking for a list of multipitch climbs that meet up with a chill hike at the top. Or just meet up with folks who don't climb (could even potentially be a drive up for the non-climbers). |

Preferred length? Trad? Sport? Country/state/area? Rock type? With the original post criteria there are probably hundreds or thousands of routes just in the US meeting these needs. |

Goat Wall in Mazama tops out at a forest service road. Prime Rib and Flyboys are popular routes. |

El Cap and Half Dome |

Cynical pinnacle center route |

Pretty much anything in the northeast. |

Cathedral Ledge, NH. There's a road to the top. |

Selaginella tops out at the Yosemite Falls trail. Nutcracker/After Six/Seven have a climbers trail to the top, a fine summit |

Almost anything on the Chief in Squamish is good for this. Long mulitpitch routes, range of grades, tops out at a popular hikers summit. The Black Canyon - the road and campground are in the rim; you descend in and climb out. Glacier Point Apron in Yosemite has a road to the top (or you can climb a 40 pitch slab route to get there). North Dome in Yosemite is a popular hikers summit, and has good multipitch climbs. You can hike (down) to the top of Mt Watkins (Yosemite) from the Tioga road once it opens. Vesper Peak in the Cascades is a popular hikers summit, and also has technical rock climbs. Cathedral Ledge has a road to the top with a popular viewpoint area. Lovers Leap in Tahoe has a fairly easy hiking trail to the top. |

Here's a great Yosemite outing. Once the Tioga road to Tuolumne opens and the snow melts (the fall is a better time for this). You get an early start in the Valley, and climb Royal Arches to Crest Jewel. 27 pitches of moderate climbing, up to 5.10, on two classic routes. Top out on North Dome. Your non-climbing friends get a later start, drive out of the Valley and up to the North Dome trailhead on the Tioga road. They hike 4 miles to the top of North Dome, and hang out up there to enjoy the view and wait for you. Once you top out, join your friends (they better have brought a beer for you!) and hike out to their car on the Tioga road. They can then drive you back down to the Valley. The real benefit of this scheme is that you get to skip the normal unpleasant descent back to the Valley from North Dome, and get driven down instead. Hitchhiking works too if you don't have friends. |

Prodigal Sun in Zion tops out most of the way up the Angel’s Landing hike. The handrail was part of my last anchor. All the tourists on their way up were really curious what was going on. |

Cosmiques Arete - finish at the viewing platform, ride the teleferique down. Routes on the Tofane, Lagazoui, Hexenstein, Pordoi, etc. - tour WWI ruins on the walk down (or ride a cable car). |

The Bastille in HELLdorado. |

Flatiron outside Phoenix, my wife and I raced my family up it for fun. It is a pretty fun little top out. Hike is a bit long, but I remember the rack was pretty light. |
