Seems like *someone* just likes to feel superior and speak with an air of authority on social media.

SERIOUSLY STOP IT.  Hahahaha.  Good lord man.

Someone who's name could make him a Stan Lee hero?

Just wanted to point out It makes you feel really cool when you yell rope, so I'm gonna keep doing it every time primarily for that reason. "ROPE!"

Is there a more insufferable category of social media post than the sanctimonious proclamations of a climbing guide taking a strong, half-reasoned stance on some mundane bullshit?

Tristan Hamm.

I tried to find Burchey's classic expose of the infamous Instagram Abfluencer (titled something to the effect of "R U Reddy to Get SOOO Stoked 2 Rock Climb?!!11!11") but it appears that it got deleted.

How'd you get the rope up there Top Roper? Lol

I taped my rope to yours and pulled it through the anchor like I always do. How else would I get the rope up there?

+1 on yelling rope because it let’s everyone know you are a badass who is about to rap down a big cool badass cliff, and also because this thread is pedantic and stupid

I'm going to start yelling "Hope!" when my partner is struggling through a crux

This sort of "stop doing this" has been all the rage with the guides on insta.

Don't forget girth hitch anchors! Some Insta guide is even peddling rigging rings for anchors now instead of a locker. Gotta stand out/be trendy somehow I guess...

I have definitely already done this. For some reason it feels more respectable coming out of my mouth than "watch me!"

Make sure you post this image on the route page with the caption “ROPE!”. Rappelling pics are the most badass climbing pics. They are best when shot from below or when taken as a selfie part way down.

I play the catch the rope game all the time, so far it has earned me one 6 pack of root beer(im underage) and several welts on my arm, but its relatively safe as long as you pay attention. I have been hit by many ropes that nobody shouted about, especially in gyms, but a few outside as well. Luckily i havent gotten injured but it always hurts and is just kinda rude from the party who pulled it. No real reason to stop yelling rope, all it can do is help people not get hit which is a good thing.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
