I disagree. Bruised and bloody thighs are aid because the ego boost caused by kneebarring really hard without a kneepad (and thus beinga Trve Kvlt Hard man) has extraordinary intangible value when on redpoint. The shame of using kneepads is a mental downgrade before you even get on the route far counteracting the advantage of free no hands rests.

Egos are also aid

Let me tell a story about why this is an important function of climbing fashion. Yesterday was a hot day at Smith. My friends and I were trying bolt from the blue, a really long climb in the shade. There is a mandatory kneebar on the first crux so I needed to be wearing shorts for the kneebar pad also I would get too warm climbing. But I would get real cold belaying this super long route in the shade and doing nothing. Perfect situation for pants over shorts.

Put it on tighter

Unfortunately I wear it so tight that the straps are ripping and I had to buy a second one.

Defensibly chode rider did rescue me because I cut my leg open bad enough to get stiches.

This is actually a great example supporting Trevor's advocacy of warm-ups. BUT... pulling on warm-ups for belay duty and taking them off to climb is far different than the nonsense of wearing pants over your harness and then climbing that way, which is Trevor's original thesis and shown in the photo he posted.

I didn't notice the photo was of me climbing and not belaying (oops haha). I only actually climb pants over harness like 5% of the time, two number grades below my limit; I wear shorts 94% of the other time. In that photo I am not wearing climbing shoes either.

I generally wear the pants while belaying and shed them for the climb then put them back on while belaying that is why the speed element is important to me. But I spend most my time belaying and resting therefore most time is actually spent with pants over harness.

Fine, but that's not what you said in the OP and 100% not at all what you implied. Stop changing the frame of reference when you realize your argument is falling apart.

That's what Trevor does - clutter the threads with nonsense, and pivot away from his original arguments when it goes downhill for him, eventually lock the thread, then repeat.

Jeesh what a bunch of crybabies. If you have a different opinion that’s fine. But if you dislike the post all together, why even contribute? It just adds to the perceived popularity of the thread.

In my opinion, do whatever you prefer. I like the overalls idea.

Old debate? In almost 50 years of climbing this is the first time I’ve ever heard of this desperate plea for attention…..I mean “debate”.

Why am I not surprised.

This post is hilarious. Lighten up Francis.

I’m really happy you included the pic of Sasha. I was confused and not sure what you meant.

have you considered wearing pants over your pants? Looks like it could work idk.

It sounds like you're responding to Trevor, but you quoted one of my posts?

I am not, but your profile picture makes me think you could be my right handed person! My dog looks like that if I don't cut his hair!

I don't think I specified that I actively climbed in pants over all the time most time spent climbing is really just standing around. I do agree in hindsight it was confusing!

it isn't about climbing....

It's about a person that did not get enough attention as a child...

The discussion is simple. Do you wear pants under your harness all the time or do you manage your warmth by changing layers frequently to maintain a consistent temperature ideal for sending. Seems most people are not seeking the optimal temperature/sunburn/bug management by having the flexibility to change their layers. You guys seem focused on me because no one can seem to articulate why my approach is worse.

If anyone else started a thread called, "should you wear warm ups" I think mountain project would be 50/50 on the idea. There is simply no rationale reason to complain about me getting attention in a thread because that just bumps it to the top. If you don't want to be part of a discussion then don't. I doubt you walk around in real life telling people their conversations are dumb, the only reason you do it hear is because you can hide behind the anonymity of the internet. If you have things you want to say directly to me send me a DM.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
