Most iconic/dense climbing faces in the continental US?

Count me in for a Tahquitz poster and a maybe a Hulk if you get to them. Super stoked! Bonus points for somehow capturing the horn on traitor horn on Tahquitz:) |

I'm kind of surprised nobody has mentioned Elephant's Perch yet. |
|
|
Turkey Rocks would be cool if you could find a place to take one good photo of the Rock, Perch, leftovers and right overs. (Might need a drone for that shot?) |
|

amazing work. i'd love to see more US stuff. id probably buy grand teton, longs peak, mt whitney, and cirque of the towers. |

Elephant's Perch in the Sawtooths in Idaho is a beautiful alpine granite monolith with lots of routes! |

Alex Buissewrote: If you park at the Fowler trailhead you can get a good shot of Redgarden and the West Ridge about 3 minutes from the car after you get out of the trees: Hiking further along the Fowler trail you can get great images of Redgarden without the West Ridge in front as well as the South Buttress. Most of the climbing in the canyon faces west, not south toward the creek. If you want a panoramic view of everything from the Bastille up to Shirtail Peak you can scramble up the South Quartzite Ridge and get above the trees and more level with the climbs: But at this scale it will be hard to pick out the individual routes. I think the must-have section is from Rebuffat's down to the Naked Edge. I'd be happy to hike around with you if you come out. Avoid the weekends, the park fills up every weekend when the weather is decent. |

What beautiful work. Hulk, Middle Cathedral, Cookie/Arch, Needles - these would all be sorely tempting. Keep us updated! |
|

Alex, you have a great website! Just curious, as a professional photographer, what is your opinion of work printed on aluminum? We had one of my husband's photos done that way, with a float mount, and I personally thought it was beautiful. Was able to dropbox the file to a local lab and then just pick it up when done - no packing and shipping, no added cost for mat and frame. |

It looks like this would be the wrong direction for your road trip, but Cannon Cliff in NH would be perfect. Cathedral or Whitehorse wouldn't be bad either. I would buy prints of any of these. |

"Wall Street" aka Potash Rd in Moab is pretty well known. |
|
|
The Needles are great for photography. The problem is that a major fire burned through the are last summer/fall. For now it's unclear what the woods in this picture look like. Depending on when your trip is, better info could be available. The photo's in you portfolio are spectacular. |

North Face of Mt. Sneffels. Not a ton of routes but man what a beautiful shot. Especially in the fall. |

There are a lot of very “iconic/dense” cliffs in the Red River Gorge. The Mother Lode would be a good place to start. There are a lot of great suggestions in this thread. I think lovers leap would also be cool. |

Thanks again to everyone, this is becoming such a wonderful resource! Elephant's Perch looks amazing. I don't believe we'll have time to hit Idaho on this trip, but since we plan to be based in Vancouver for a while, that should be an easy trip to make. Thanks David for all the info and the offer to hike along! I'm not sure what the logistic is going to look like when I get there, considering there is also a toddler to manage (she alternates between 5.6 and 5.14R) but I'll definitely keep that in mind. @phylp: There are two things, straight prints on aluminum, and regular giclee prints mounted on an aluminum sheet. The first kind is quite popular as it really makes the image pop out with crazy contrast and saturation. For my own work, I think it makes sense for some images that are all about the extreme, and is not so well suited for the more contemplative/subtle ones. But they are crazy popular for a good reason. The second kind is also great and very similar to what I have hanging on my own walls in Chamonix (except I use dibond instead of aluminum, slightly lighter and cheaper). @Matt Thomsen: I was wondering about Red River Gorge as it looks to be pretty vegetated and spread out among many different cliffs. The Mother Lode looks like it would be a great candidate but I am a bit worried about getting a clean overall shot with all those trees. Any opinion? Or any other cliff you'd suggest looking at? Thanks! |

Yeah, you are probably right about the Red. It would be hard to get a full cliff with all the trees. it would be a lot easier to do in the winter. But, I have seen good photos of Emerald City/Lady Slipper, and possibly Roadside from around or on top of The Zoo. It would be cool to get a poster, but would definitely be a lot of work. Good luck and I look forward to seeing what you come up with after your trip! |

Well, 7600 miles later, I have material for a fair number of posters: Seneca Rocks, Longs Peak, Eldorado Canyon, the Flatirons, Devils Tower, Little Cottonwood, Indian Creek, Tahquitz, the Needles, the Cathedrals, more El Cap, Washington Column, Lover's Leap and Smith Rock. The weather didn't play ball in the Tetons and I ran out of time in the Sierra and the Cascades, but that's what return trips are for... Here's a start with the Diamond and more on the East Face of Longs Peak (99 routes total!) : The poster is available on https://www.montblanclines.com/product-page/longs-peak-east-face and you can download a middle resolution file on https://www.montblanclines.com/hd-photos. Feedback is extremely welcome, especially if I have forgotten lines or made mistakes on some of them! |

Rad, can't wait to see the rest and order a poster. |
|
|
Great stuff! Purchased a Longs print! Look forward to when you get better weather in the Tetons next time around. |
