Earthquake in the sawtooths... Smoothie is gone..
I suggest turning your volume down (not my video lol). The summit block of Baron spire came down.... Geologic time includes now.... |
Wow |
Choss is as choss does. |
Did this happen today? |
Yesterday I think |
Video is unclear, is Smoothie gone? |
WOW!!! Aftershocks still going! I think it's a good time to not mess around in the Sawtooths, personally. On the other hand, guess the ancient bolt ladder isn't a concern anymore, eh? I sure hope no one was up there. There's another video from a different angle, on Facebook. You can hear these guys screaming "holy shit!!" on that video. Scared the other people.... |

Unreal, was this shot from the saddle back lakes below the elephants perch? |
Nick Baker wrote: Hey, glad all of you are fine! Meant to get that in. I sure hope no one got caught in that. The first quake, in late March, set off wind chimes...inside inside my house in Boise! |

Ezra Ellis wrote: Ellis It looks similar but I think it's the lakes basically across the valley and river that feeds into redfish. Close though. |

The comments on the video about the dude continually yelling "Smoothie is gone!" are hilarious. Well worth the read. |

Was up at the Perch during the earthquake/rockfall. Both shots were taken from the summit, pre and post Baron collapse. Shout out to David A who posted about the obliterated rap route on Baron Spire. We were planning to climb The Destroying Angel and we thought better not to with the unstable rock. Some beta can save lives. I hope no one was hurt. That was one wild video. |
Ezra Ellis wrote: That’s Middle Baron Lake, at last a few ridges and 10 miles away from the Perch. |
Shino, any major issues at the perch you noticed other than needing to be cautious for loose rock post eq? Heading up there this weekend. |
Nick Baker wrote: I was also at the perch during the earthquake and didn't really notice anything on the perch change. You should be fine |
“Oh my heavens to Betsy “ Hahahah. I feel like this is the Mountain version of the “Baby Whale” video. In all seriousness, hope nobody was up there and that must have been wild to see. |
Thanks WK. |

Morty Gwin wrote: How does Darwin play into this? It's not like the earthquake was in the weather forecast |
