Exactly what I was thinking....why doesn't some academic in a state where rec pot is legal do a study???

Well, I think it probably is starting to a degree. But when you do research, you can't just walk into a store, get weed & start doing trials & tests. The ethical standard for what you can and cannot do is higher than that, there's university policies & comittes etc. Given the current administration's tendancy to make exception to allowed fundings for things they don't like (like aboprtion when considering medical-related funding), then I wouldn't be surprised if at least some grants funding explicitely prohibits using the money to do that kind of things.

IMO it'll come, but possibly not from US universities, at least not first....

It is coming, the former Republican Speaker of the House is on the board of a weed company...In 2018 Boehner joined the board of Acreage Holdings, a cannabis corporation, to promote the medical use of cannabis and advocate for federal de-scheduling of the drug (a shift from his previous stance while in Congress).[90]  In 2019 Boehner was named chair of the National Cannabis Roundtable, a cannabis lobbying organization.[91]

Interesting! Didn't know that.

However it's unclear to me how much influence a guy like Boehner, which personally I would qualify as a sensible R,  within the R party nowadays.  You read stuff like, say, The Atlantic,  which is a platform that now serves for many of what we could call "Republicans in exile". But the core of the R party now doesn't seem to care much the The Atlantic type of Republicans in fact it's villified as "the establishment" of course...

Though I guess if 2020 goes bad enough for Rs, then maybe guys like Boehner & other sensible types may make a comeback...

I'm a fiscal conservative, truck driving, handgun owning, crew cut wearing, veteran. And I can't stand what has happened to the GOP in the last twenty years.

But nothing will change until we get all of the gerrymandering out of politicians hands, and into non-partisan hands.  It has allowed the worst of the worst to become entrenched.

My home state has a "safe" seat in the hands of Ilhan Omar, and another safe district was once held by Michelle Bachman(Tom Emmer seat).  Two of the worst  people to ever hold elected office, other than Trump.

And I read The Nation, for a balance to Fox "News".

The number of people on MP that need to STFU because they have no idea what they're talking about is too damn high.

I thought I was getting sick this morning at work. When I got on the unit suddenly I became real short of breath, I was sweaty and my chest hurt.
Then I realized that I just took the stairs.

wait, why is omar the worst ever? i mean there is so much competition and she hasn’t stolen or grifted the tens of millions that other elected officials have or hurt anyone. i’m not saying i agree with all of her public statements or positions, but the right wing smears against her have also been unfair, no?

She openly lies about things, much the same as Drump. This district was once held by the likes of Martin Sabo and Don Fraser, I think she should comport herself better.

I'm not saying any of the Rep's in this state are any better, but she is standing on the shoulder of giants, and embarrassing them.

I had it. One of the first cases in my state. I'm very fit compared to most and this thing sucked. 103 fever, couldn't sleep, waking up sweaty, massive chest and throat issues as I recovered. About 4 days of it being 'bad" before it really got better. Went for a run while I had it and it sucked- made the first mile and then had to stop because I got too dizzy. I actually went climbing indoors, too, and I sucked at that. felt weak. (i did not know I had it when I ran and climbed, thought it was a bad cold). About 5 days after first having symptoms my fever was down to 101 and I started going for light jogs again and I really struggled- I remember telling my friends I thought I was dying. The virus had taken a flamethrower to every one of my body's functions it seemed. Only once I had recovered did I get my positive test results back.

That being said, I have heard that a ton of people may contract the virus and NEVER have any symptoms. This thing affects everyone differently. But despite it really sucking for me, recovering in just a few days and not needing any meds or care of any sort isn't exactly unbearable. If you're fit, your'e fine.

You went climbing when you had it??  You have got to be kidding me!

My bad, I stopped reading after you mentioned you went climbing.  Good thing you recovered.  We really need to be careful.  Stay safe!

Were you triggered because of the maga/trump mention or because you believed in the original garbage?

So none of them are any better, but she is the worst? That requires an explanation.

she's incredibly racist for one. She's also accused the US of trying to get set up to "invade" venezuela with our food/medicine aid shipments recently at the peak of their crisis- something that never happened- the aid was just aid.

Honestly, I was triggered by the gun show comment. I am from Canada. Perhaps you would be surprised to hear that the majority of gun owners in this country are intelligent and successful people! Its a privilege not a right to own a firearm here and there are stringent processes in place to ensure that it is difficult to obtain that privilege! I think its extremely close minded to make rash generalizations of peoples intelligence based upon them having an interest in firearms.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
