Climbing gym and coronavirus

Obviously it depends on your geographical location, age, and other risk factors, but I'm curious about what YOU think:
For the record, I usually climb at Seattle Bouldering Project, which is 1 mile from Harborview Medical Center, where news is now reporting that two deaths from last week was linked to coronavirus. |

Not a medical expert, but here are my thoughts: |

You're more likely to die from a gumby dropping another gumby on you. Behave accordingly. |

People of MTN project, have no fear. Coronavirus is a virus derived of consuming too many Coronas. Upon consuming X amount of Coronas you should start to feel the fiesta. This "fiesta" feeling is typically the onset to what we now have affecting the masses In droves- Coronavirus. Symptoms exhibited are typically headache, upset stomach, the shits and then death, only treatable by the hair of the Corona Dog. |

Same risk as any other flu virus!!! |

2020: The year that bouldering in gyms became the leading cause of climbing related deaths. |

Seems highly elevated. Corona virus gets on holds, holds gets scrubbed, everyone breathes in corona-ladden chalk/sweat/deadskin-cell/fecal-flake dust. That said our total inability to actually have any sort of structured response to this (vs say China) means we're pretty much all going to get it anyway in very rapid order. |

You have nothing to fear. |

Mike Arechiga wrote: Same risk as any other flu virus!!! Not quite. According to the published scientific data 2-3 times more contagious than seasonal influenza, roughly 10 times more fatal. For some age groups and folks with compromised immune systems fatality rates are over 10%. But, 80% have mild symptoms and sneeze at gloom and doom. |

I was wondering how long it would be before the coronavirus got on MP. |

Flu Vs COVID-19 https://www.livescience.com/new-coronavirus-compare-with-flu.html It is probably a good time to give up your smoking and vaping habit for a while. Personally, I don't think you want to be too flippant about the whole thing, especially if you are middle aged or older or smoke. Healthy younger people can get wiped out too, though that is less likely. The death rate seems to be about 10-20 time the flu, and even if it doesn't kill you outright it can cause real damage. Respiratory failure, septic shock, and/or multiple organ dysfunction/failure is kind of a drag. |
