I don't think there's any evidence in this thread to support that claim. From the Rock and Ice post a few pages ago, it sounds like someone from R&I called Danny and used him as a source.

The reporter called, or just is part of the "Satan's Minions" email list and got their info from there. It's not clear, and R&I hasn't been very forthcoming. This is why I believe they should just say who the article author was. I understand not wanting to live in infamy on the internet, but mistakes can be forgiven. Taking responsibility is admirable - even moreso when you explain what you will do differently going forward.

Rock and Ice mentions "a trusted third party" in their retraction. A simple Google search of Danny's name and Rock and Ice pulls up at least one article he was involved in. If you guys are the same people who initially believed this story and are now claiming that my theory is so far fetched so as to start calling me names??

No. I think you're smart enough to see that those are frauds on the American people or people in general. Scams targeted at individuals are of a different sort. If a deal is too good to be true it probably is and you should do your research so that you don't get screwed.

Jesus... no I am not the author. Nor am I a journalist of any kind. That is really dumb on many levels but at least one is that none of the details from my phone call are in the article. Why would I interview a guy and then not use the interview? I already explained why I called the guy.

I was in a R&I article one time, because I'm fucking rad. Deal with it.

I agree that you should take responsibility for allowing yourself to get scammed. If you don't you may not change your behavior and get scammed again. But it's 100% the "fault" of the scammer.

I wonder if other countries are targeted the same way the US is for oversees scammers. They're so bad lately they're hilarious. "We are going to suspend your social if you don't call us". My social? You mean my Social Security Number? LOL. Or "This is the IRS. If you don't call us you will be arrested by the local cops". The "cops" huh? LOL. Those cops will never put me in the big house, see! 

I lived in NZ for a long time - scammers are just as prevalent and successful there as they are in America/Canada.

That would make at least some amount of sense given that they solo the Flatirons. If so, I'm not sure why they're all being so protective about it.  

ETA - Assuming Danny, John RB, and R&I aren't lying, I'm guessing they just got a little group-thinky wanting to trust Danny Gilbert's judgment, and the minions email list came to some kind of consensus that Alex's story was plausible. And hey, that happens in groups. However, "I believe it's true because Danny's one of us and Danny believes it's true" is not a great way to do journalism. 

That would be a bad assumption WRT the Minions.  Said consensus didn't happen.  Some people posted some stuff, particularly DG, but "that happens" in groups doesn't apply to a mailing list in reality.  We don't conviene to make judgements on these matters, you know.  We occasionally convene in numbers to go climb something.

So perhaps your suppositions are out of place on several points.
