Wow that blew up. Just wanted to share an update: Still haven't located my gear because none of this happened. Sorry Rock and Ice.

If this is trolling it's super funny. If this is real it's super fucked up.

this is 100% the craziest shit I've heard in the climbing world. Even crazier than my friends getting pissed on by the party above them and one of them opening their mouth thinking it was rain.

Any identifying features(like nail polish or something) on the cams? I suspect the guy might try to sell them.

Also did you catch what type of harness he was using and what shoes he was wearing?

There goes my day. Now following-

That’s a nice birthday present from your parents. Mine would probably freak out if they understood how trad climbing works. That “free solo’er in distress" scam is smart though

I doubt the story, but worth it just for @erigre's Kyle comment.

Was it this guy?

Maybe he's moved on from taking people's unattended  "lifelines," to directly pirating all the other unnecessary protection..

Not sure this is real. Almost too fucked to believe.

That's a truly wild story! I sure hope somebody knows the guy and/or you get your stuff back. Keep up good work hombre! As an aside, 2 #4s is a wild rack!

An unbelievable story from a one day old account.

Another person from the local community called Alex and got a lot more details.  He is apparently quite sincere and (understandably) quite upset about all of this.  I really doubt the d-bag who stole his gear will ever get caught, but I sure hope I'm wrong.

There is a special place in hell for people like this.

Maybe add to this thread also. . . If it’s indeed a real story. Otherwise don’t clog it up with troll bait.

+1 for a crazy story. Maybe your parents can claim the gear on their insurance but it might get weird when you tell the insurance agent that you personally handed the guy the stuff.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
