World Cup Coverage

Is it me or are those British commentators playing some sort of drinking game, doing some sort of shot every time the name "Janja" or "Janja Garnbret" is said?

You can't go a minute watching any other male or female competitor without hearing one of those two dudes gush over Janja (who, btw recently got SMOKED by a number of teenagers).

I'm just happy not one, but two Americans were in the last final.  Cool!

But yeah, the commentators really like Janja, possibly even more than Ondra.  Being that dominant is kind of a big deal though.

Janja got second at the last world cup, despite topping the route. They had to go back to position in semi finals to figure out who won. That's not really smoked, is it? The person who won was 15, but Janja is only 19. Janja is currently rated #1 in the World Ranking for lead, by a sizable margin. 

Pretty nice when you're seen as losing your edge by getting second. Sometimes.

Janja. I like watching Janja climb. I think it’s great she didn’t get the top spot a few comps in a row. My daughters’ favorite climber is Janja. Janja Garnbret.

According to Wikipedia she just turned 20, not really a meaningful difference, but still, no longer a teen. She is currently second in the rankings.

It looks like that ranking is based on all lead world cups within the last 12 months, not just this season. It also has some complicated normalization going on.

rankings are not the point.

World Cup is neither
