How long is your commute to your climbing gym?

It just occurred to me that I've always lived within a ~20-minute drive of a climbing gym, and I'm curious how far people regularly travel to climb indoors (or outdoors, for that matter). I currently live about 15 mins from my gym.

Now about 15 minutes; previous were 40 minutes (sucked significantly but only lasted 2 years) and 5 minutes.

I currently live a few blocks over from my climbing gym. It takes longer to drive there than it does to jog or ride a bike there!

In the past it was a 20 minute drive, not too bad.

Currently a 10 minute drive/bike. I’ve commuted up to 1 hour in the past though.

The gyms I currently go to are between 30-55 min from my house (one of them is 20 min from my work though, so I usually go there straight from work).

I also have driven to a gym that is 2 hrs away on a weekend many times. (Yes, that’s 4 hrs of driving to a gym!!! Insane!! But up until a few months ago this was the only gym near me that had walls taller than 25 feet, and the lead climbing option)

I’m very much looking forward to a new gym that is supposed to open up this spring, just 10 min from my house.

1hr.  But it forms a triangle with my 1hr commute, so I’ve convinced myself that if I go en route to work it’s the same as having a gym 1/2 hour away, if that makes sense.

Almost exactly the same for me. My gym closed abruptly last spring, the other two options are both small. So, I am planning on a four hour drive this Monday, for a big gym. It is January in Idaho, after all. Still, I got outside a few times!

Next winter, if all goes well, I will have a nice gym conveniently located halfway between work and home, two miles from either. Yay.

Best, Helen

3 hours, gotta love being stuck in northern Wisconsin over winter break

Now it's 30 mins, or 45 in traffic.  I liked it when I lived closer (closest was a 3 minute drive).  I wouldn't want to be much further away

I live 45 min from 3 gyms, none are closer. The commute sucks but having three gyms gives more variety

7ish minutes. 20 minutes to a boulder field, 1 hourish to a crag

35 minutes to the rope climbing gym.  There’s a bouldering gym close but my body doesn’t like bouldering anymore.

closest I've ever lived was a 5 min walk from a crag when I was in boarding school. Nowadays it's  10 to 20 min depending on what crag I want to go to. If you count the campus climbing wall as a gym then that's only like 5 min drive but I don't really ever climb there anymore, I just set.

5 min walk. I purposely moved across the street.

25 minutes to local gym, 1 hr 15 min to the lower peninsula’s premier climbing destination. 4 hr to MRG in Ohio, 8+ hrs to RRG,  9 to NRG. Oh Michigan...

20 minutes to either Earth Treks, Carderock or Great Falls.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
