Pretty big year for me, Got a rack stolen, Built a new rack, Finally climbed in yose instead of just go backpacking, Met some fucking awesome friends, Started dating an excellent woman who’s all about climbing, Did a few 5.11’s, All around I’m fuckin stoked! And good job to all of y’all too
Being super stoked for the fall, then to have a wine bottle shatter in my hand at work requiring an ER visit, realizing no goals for outdoors to be achieved. Recovered/healed fully, started training hard again, and now stronger than ever (but wish I’d had a chance to test my gains).

Oh c'mon! More backstory! I want to hear your process, in a nutshell!

A big moment for me was hopping on a route at Farley without knowing the grade or route-finding beta--it was very low-commitment (near some bolts) and easy, but something I would have felt super sketched out by just a couple months before.
Excited to keep working on efficiency and to start trying harder/longer stuff next year!
You rocked it that day you and I went climbed at Farley!
I saw a picture of climbers on el cap laying on a portaledge when I was 16 and thought it was the wildest thing. Got into rock climbing shortly after, and 8 years later I finally made it up the big stone. Heading back in May for #2!!!

I'm 46, been into rock climbing for 30 years (with a long hiatus) and I think that THIS is the wildest thing! So cool! Way to make it happen!
Every year I make an annual trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota with a stop over at Devils Tower. Normally I am the leader and I have led 6 separate trips bringing multiple followers up the durance route. This year I was able to inspire others to lead! I had a broken thumb and thrown-out back, for the first time I was able to simply jug a line up the Tower instead of leading every pitch. Plus I got to cheer on my 3 buddies first time on multi-pitch trad, devil's tower nonetheless (el cracko). It was a great moment and really felt like I was passing the torch.
Climbing related: Got inspired by Anton and others. Rode my bike to & from Eldo most days. Lost 25 pounds in the process. Looking forward to 2019 and doing more of this "rock climbing" you young people talk so much about. See you out there funk soul sisters and brothers.
In my first year of climbing I’ve managed to send up to V6 boulders and lead 5.11’s. I’ve meet some amazing people who I get to call friends and we are going to Mexico in el Potrero Chico for my first multi pitch experience. A nice 23 pitch giant!!
