Posting up Buildering routes/problems on MP

I’ve noticed it hear and there over the years. Folks posting lines up walls, buildings, a clock, statues, etc.

Real Rock = Real Route, right? Where is the line drawn for you? For me, if it’s not real rock it has no business being on MP. I’m ok with quarried lines and old chipped lines, but a clock? Should I post the sweet V2 retaining wall in my front yard? No.

Maybe others love the idea. If I’m in the minority’s, may I suggest adding something to the options to indicate it’s a man-made, artificial structure?

I hope folks don’t start posting trees....

Yeah sounds about right to me. Wasn’t there some underground hand drawn guide to climbing buildings for Harvard University or one of the other Ivy League schools?  I can’t remember where I heard it but I think it was part of one of the fraternities initiation. Something along those lines. I must admit I look at buildings and structures and think I can climb them but I never have. The giant wolf statue at Great Wolf Lodge looks fun!

In fact, there is a tree "bouldering" route listed on MP. Also, Colorado has a whole section dedicated to indoor gyms and there's a few "permanent" gym routes listed there. I kind of like the buildering/man made structure routes but I think the tree route is inappropriate, don't want to damage the tree.

Why does it matter?

It doesn’t really, besides:
- looking at the map, thinking there’s some rock and it turns out to be a statue.

- the idea that there are so many buildering “routes” we’d get overrun! - it just feels out-of-place.- and it’s “rock” climbing- and, I want everyone to do everything my way.

Really just the first one.

Some of the longest routes in RI are buildering it seems. Circa 1966: denniscmerritt.com/amzinet/…

The Northwest Section of Suzzallo library at the University of Washington used to have a climber's guide to campus buildings. I checked it out in the '80s, and maybe they still have it.

I don't think buildering belongs on here. When ever I'm traveling for a non climbing purpose I go on MP in hopes of finding a little crag I can visit if I have free time. It's always disappointing when it turns out to be a gym or buildering route.

I put together a little zine style guide to buildering around Kancas City a few years back. It had a handful of bolted lines in it even. Personally I think this is the best way to share this kind of info. Especially since it's pretty illegal and all...

They still have it, but now you have to go to the special sections to access it. There's also an old website that I think has most of the same routes alpinedave.com/uw_builderin…

Nobody. Unless they came to MP looking for rock. So... me :)

With the additions to MP brand, like Mtn Bike Project, Hiking Project, etc, couldn't the powers that be develop the Buildering Project app so that I don't have to wade through so many rock routes while trying to find that slab on College Ave near Whole Foods?

Thanks James.
Nice to see that someone has posted the info online as well.
