I'd rather be indoors in Japan than outside in southern Wyoming, right about now. Dean probably doesn't speak Japanese. They could be disputing with him right now, if he had just picked the right college major.

Considering the wind and cold in southern Colorado today, once you scale it up to Wyoming levels.. Probably less hospitable than Mars today.

Right. And Guideline #1 says Don't be a jerk. Makes me mad that the administrators don't care. I guess it's different rules if you climb 5.12+.

Just my two cents. I am way more impressed by the first ascensionist who put routes up than the person who spent 6 months in the gym and hopped outside.
...but what if I trained for 6 months to put up a first ascent???
I guess I shall be forever chained withing your ethical purgatory.

Anyone using Google with regards to climbing is also cheating.... climbing friend, oh my laughing it is out loud! you do not backstep on the 5.10, except on rarest of occassions! you do "smoke blunt" and listen of the dubstep with your beanie buddies while crushing on your v10 on greater! you are getting off on my lawn!

Well, probably not on those moderns softies you guys call climbs out West - however in the Northeast, we resisted before accepting that 5.11 was actually a thing. Hidden in those 5.10 you may find anything worth pulling from your bag of tricks....

Dean-o! N wrote:I'm not backing down and it didn't seem prudent to post in the Training Forum. The incessant need to train for climbing is cheating relative to the first ascensionist who didn't train. A new climber can essentially ski the school of hard knocks by climbing in the gym and immediately jumping on 5.11+ routes outside. We're not talking about the merits of training. It's obvious that it works or no one would do it. This is an ethics issue through and through. Just my two cents. I am way more impressed by the first ascensionist who put routes up than the person who spent 6 months in the gym and hopped outside. Ethics, not merit. Is there a hidden question in this? Is this theory only applicable to first ascents or training towards a project as well? or training in general to keep healthy and conditioned like good footwork or strong fingers?? do you train to get where you are grade wise? you talk about the merits of climbing so I am confused as to what your beef is. I saw somewhere in this feed you asking abut ascents on plastic that mimic a real route. Has anyone ever claimed to have the first ascent or send period of some outside route?? that seems crazy.. I clearly have questions sir.

I'd like to discuss how the World Anti Doping Association doesn't ban competition climbers who practice outside.

Is using a Bowflex or Thighmaster considered training? How about taking the stairs instead of the elevator? If I am on a strict diet to improve my strength to weight ratio am I losing out on the pristine FA? This thread is one big joke, right?

It's not a joke it's shameful. Many here are too embarrassed to admit that they lie and cheat. Anything to one-up other people around. Many willing to climb an indoor route molded from an outdoor climb and claim an ascent.

You've also shifted your position from claiming an ascent by training on a replica and sending the real thing to claiming an ascent on the replica as if it's the real thing; that deserves T-2.
