Better personal finance would leave you more money to afford that sweet ride. slim wrote:you guys are pole vaulting over mouse turds. the best way to make money is to have a good job. The best way to make (more) money is to start w/ a lot of money. It literally takes little talent or effort. But from now on, I'll just tell people who can't get up something to climb harder, lol. |

In english I believe to say the word is "pedantic". |

I am to believe that the colonel has in mind the better appreciation of the lifestyle of climbing through having the very expensive automoblie. To appreciate climbing, climb. Life always takes care of itself. The productivity of an individual and the money that they then show is, well, a very limiting belief system, no? But for me to be good to the colonel, I believe it to be clear that his original post is to be sarcastic and poking the fun. What? |

I do to apologize for my so poor english writing. |

Hey guys! Whoa, Sprinters huh? Alright! Well, see ya later |

I just got back from Ten Sleep. All the f $%ing Sprinters made finding parking a pain in the a$% but there were a lot more camping spots :-) There were at least 25 or 30 vans and they do like to hang together in 2 or 3 van clusters. Next year will be double that. |

I don't mind the sprinters - same as a tent to me. Just noting the trend for people to take on the road lifestyle showing up in that particular way. A few years ago, a finished out van was rare, and probably a VW. Now it's a sprinter, and it's common. |

The funny thing is, I only make about 20k/year and I get people asking me how I can 'afford' to live out of a van and travel all the time. It's pretty silly. Some people look at me like I'm homeless (which in a way I am) while others look at me like a trust fund hippie. Ha! |

Some people remain stuck (sometimes happily) in the box that mainstream society feeds them. Others find a different freedom living out of a box. |

I am stuck in mainstream =/ Can't afford the 2500$ a month for medicine / required yearly doctor visits so I can get prescription without it. Come on I am a diabetic type 1, I am not going to magically wake up one day without it, I don't care what your degree is in I still know alot more about it than the doctor I have to see every year who isn't a diabetic and doesn't live with the shit daily. /sigh |

Yeah, bad break for you VS. Sorry to hear that. And I hear you. I had about equal yearly medical expenses in 3 of the last 5 years, but not every year of my life. I am not completely out of the mainstream either, just saying you can choose how to live your life... In your case within your personal medical constraints. My constraints are different, and no doubt my choices are different, but it's not my job to make everyone else understand my choices.. Likewise for Tyler. |

Ryan's been living in his van for years just waiting to be able to tell us this. |

I'm selling a VW van for 9k OBO. A lot less than a new Sprinter. (I won't cross post in every van thread, just this once.) |

I ghot my GMC for $1200 and put $800 into it to make it drive-able (tires, a serpentine belt), then another $800 into some other fixes to make it safe (suspension, brakes). So $2800 and I have been fairly happy with it. If I had to live in it, I'd want something else. Specifically, something I could stand straight up in. But for a week at a time, be it climbing or Burning Man, it has been great for the last decade. And not so hard to fathom paying for. |
