Meddle gets third place from me...

What we need is a Neil young thread!!!

I am also a big Division Bell fan...

Hey now, give ABBA some props. If people like Tomas Haake say that he was influenced by their work, then they deserve a route or two in their honor.

(but yeah, Dancing Queen was lame as hell)

Anyone who doesn't think that Animals is in fact the best Floyd album is a sport weenie.

Watch it Stich... I've seen you climb. Animals is a great album, but their greatest one is Dark Side.

Animals is third on my list behind Meddle and Dark Side. And a close fourth would be Obscured By Clouds.

Animals, Dark Side, Meddle, Wish You Were Here...the problem is you're all arguing about 4 great albums. I went through a period of time where The Wall dominated my CD player, but I rarely pull it out these days. Now, A Collection of Great Dance Songs, there's a kick as compilation album:).

Obscured by Clouds is a pretty under-rated album...there are some great tracks on there, for an "obscure" soundtrack album.

Surprised nobody's gone way back to Piper/Saucerful...Interstellar Overdrive is one of my favorite tunes...Syd Barrett was a genius. I think it's a route in CCC as well.

Chocula- I'm definitely a fan of the first few albums. If your really into them and haven't seen Live in Pompeii it's a must. I listed this as my second favorite, although it's not a studio album it's freaking awesome. It gets into meddle, obscure, and saucerfull back in the Sid days.

I just thought that was the best answer, all circumstances given.

The Wall all the way. Yup, its the most narcissistic album ever but I've listened to it end to end, totally sober, more times than I remember. I just saw the concert in LA. It was probably the last concert I need to see being as how no others will come close. I love Meddle, Animals, DSOFTM, Obscured by Clouds, Wish You Were Here, Ummaguma, but Waters was the main talent in Pink Floyd. Amused to Death and Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking were very good, Momentary lapse of Reason was very good. 2 for Waters, one for Gilmour. All of Gilmour's post floyd stuff afterwards stunk.

Oh yes, Syd Barret stunk.

The wall was a better movie than an album. Wish you were here is timeless.

Dark Side is the greatest hands down, the Wall is second. Their early stuff is pretty rad like that concert they played in a colliseum. Very much connects with climbing mountains :)

IMO, Waters rode the coattails of Barrett...and it became increasingly clear that Waters never got over Barrett leaving the band. If it wasn't for The Wall, Waters would have very little career left. Just sayin'...

I'll be the first to admit I prefer the Gilmour/Waters PF over the Barrett/Waters PF, but it's quite possible that without Barrett, Waters would have been just another bass player in a band loaded with talent. And for that, Barrett deserves credit for influencing most of the PF we all know and love.

Post wall work was highlighted in my opinion by Amused to Death (Waters' solo masterpiece) and by Momentary Lapse, where Gilmour really showed off his ability to write a good song. But I must add, I'm a little surprised nobody seems to have mentioned liking The Division Bell at all.

I believe that the division bell isn't mentioned too often because it's kind soft, and weird for a PF album. Gilmour was trying too hard to take Waters place I think. The couple songs they did in the Pulse concert rocked, but the album versions were so so. Amused to death in my opinion is almost an homage to the Sid days. It's freaking weird, not too musically oriented diving into those pre/post world war issues but with hints of conflicts today. It's strange because right around this time Bob Dylan and Niel Young released war themed albums that in my opinion flopped as well. It seems that it's a hard task for an artist to keep relevant with the changing times.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
