You might be surprised to know that a scientific theory is quite different from the colloquial form you use.

One of the key features of an argument to reach "theory" status is that it must account for every observation yet made, then make several testable predictions that observations confirm.

So really, "just a theory" is to belittle something like calling El Capitan as "just a little rock" by implying that there must be a lot of improvement before it even gets close to being worth our attention.

Debris cover on the surface of the glaciers (a function of the steep adjacent rock walls) is a proposed mechanism to explain the anomalous behavior. As mentioned earlier, mass balance is highly complex and dependent on many factors that vary on both temporal and spatial scales.

Emerging studies regarding the Karakoram glaciers improve our understanding of glacier dynamics and help constrain climate models. They have yet to falsify climate change.

It doesn't take science, or even that much intelligence, to recognize that we have an impact on the environment. If we all shit at the base of a climb, it's going to stink. We don't need scientists to prove or disprove that. If we all pump chemicals into the atmosphere, it's going to have an effect. And, it probably isn't going to be a good one.

NPR did a bit on this today - it wasn't hard to follow. To sum it up:
If we have climate change, some places will get warmer, some perhaps colder, and many likely wetter. Snow makes glaciers, so some of them might increase in size. The Karakoram is a range in the Himalaya which appears to be in the minority since it is apparently increasing while the rest are not.

Hey, remember last winter, when it was really cold, how a bunch of the climate change deniers were like, "See? It's cold! There's no global warming!"

By that logic, this year shouldn't they all be saying, "hey, this winter was really warm! Global warming is real! I was wrong!"

I'm going to go ahead and assume it's because they all figured out the difference between large scale patterns and single data points.
