Man, that's wild. I was just there a few weeks ago and met one of the Rangers, I was insanely envious of his job. Too bad I'm vastly unqualified. I could see such a posting having an effect on someone comparable to what Ed Abbey got out of Arches National Monument. Stunning place.

An EMT with SAR leader and EMS qualifications for $18.59 an hour? And it's a 6-month long job (max allowed) that is considered temp? Someone who really wants the job (not for the money) will have to step up to that one. That's not all bad I suppose. Someone should love a job like that.

So many of those ranger jobs go to interns or volunteers who have the credentials but have given like years of seasonal work for almost free, just to move towards the top of the list. I know, I asked and applied many years ago at RMNP but had little chance, being from Illinois. Sounds like a fabulous opportunity for the right person.

It's a shame that they do take advantage of the love for wilderness and devotion to the parks that these people will give, by offering such poor pay for it. You gotta love the job and the location much more than what you make financially, that's for sure. That's your reward.

If Brent is leaving that's a big loss for climbers in the Black. He's a great guy and was a source of excellent advice for visiting climbers. Best wishes Brent!

Application sent. Man that automated system they've got going is a pain. Brent was a good guy. Wonder what the deal is.

I don't want to catch the nasty bug that makes you want to go freeze your ass off, chipping your way up a popsicle... Hey!..don't go anger the popsicle lovers here. Ice is for the climber who is just bored with the gym over the cold winter months.

It looks like from the qualifications they all ready have someone in mind for the job, tends to be what the park service does, unless you are a vet good luck. I think Brent is a permanent, this is a seasonal position. I work for the NPS by the way.
