I was bored and I stopped by rc.com, what a filthy pile that website is. Content is sorely lacking and the place is hard to navigate too!

I noticed some nubes got stuck there too, thinking that's all there is out there on the net. Shall we let them, in on the MP secret?!?!!??

No. Let them get burned a little over there. When they get here they will be all the more gratefull.

Don't shit where you sleep. If you find a perfect, little known crag are you going to blast it out on the internet?

If RC.com dies, where do you think all the .commies will go?
Long live RC.com- just keep it away from me.

I would have expected more from you Rhoads... this isn't contentious at all. C'mon son. Not only did everyone agree to disagree with you, but no one completely degenerated this into a personal insult fest until the 7th post. What the...

Oh wait, shoot, I'm not on RC.com. MP? We had 5 more posts coming before that happened. My bad.

I don't know, there's more route information from my local crags over there. Seems like more gear reviews too.

I enjoy stoping by there now and again just to see how many people want and need abuse and every mow and again I find someone new and throw them a lifeline, and tell them about the ccc website, or if I do'nt like them that much I tell them about mp

If RC.com went away, then who would you have to hate??!!!

Internet rivalries are one of the time honored traditions of climbers all over the world.

in general it's a pretty basic site. anyone looking for info on climbing will be brought there after a simple google search and that's where they'll begin to learn the basics. if they're actually worth anything as a climber they will learn pretty much everything RC.com can teach them and will quickly learn to seek out better places. that's exactly what i did. i learned the basics of trad climbing and found my first couple climbing partners through rock climbing.com. after that i eventually taught myself a lot more advanced techniques, found mountain project, and left the original site behind. that's what rc.com acts well as: a stepping stone for people looking to progress.

Unfortunately, the irony of this thread is lost on most of you.

MP's routes database and search features are infinitely better than rc.com's, but to discuss this is boring.

As for discussion forums, though...

rc.knob gets more raw noobs who ask really stupid questions. However, they get smacked down very quickly, and are thus presented with two options: 1) get the fuck out, or 2) harden the fuck up. Thus, many of those who stick around on rc get less butthurt, have heightened bullshit detectors, and ultimately translate this skepticism into their climbing.

At mp, I have noticed a greater tendency to coddle noobs and be nice to them. So, while there is not quite the "raw noob" factor that comes with obvious domain names, mp's "don't be a jerk" policy actually REWARDS noobitude, butthurtz, unfounded statements, and lamesuckery much more than rc. In the short run, it makes you feel nice and safe in your special area, but in the long run, your rope will be cut, your butt will be hurt, and you will die, NOOB!

Just a case in point: at rc.com we have smacked a certain moronic conservative dickwad down so much that, after six or seven alternate id's, he finally realized that he was not wanted. Here on mp, all you allow him to post his bullshit over and over again. So,
nice work on protecting free speech, but your "don't be a jerk"
guard actually prevents users from existing in the true Hobbesian, free state of nature. Ironically enough, this guy's conservative
arguments have been shown only to thrive where there is a strong, restrictive nanny-state to make sure that he doesn't get too
butthurt. On a truly laissez faire website, he would be out.

On rc, noobs know that they are noobs. On MP, they don't. Which is safer? You guys will be the death of (internet) climbing.

I've laid out this carefully-thought theory in the past, and it received substantial peer review.

The biggest problem with Mountain Project is the lack of a star rating system.

Wow, I have only been here a couple of times, been around over a decade as an avid enthusiast, and already you guys remind me of some of the people I see from time to time climbing, over their heads, spouting this or that, showing your superior attitude, and I will just do the same here as I do to the others I see in real life, shake my head, laugh in amazement at the arrogance, and maybe even let you know what you appear to be to the rest of the real people.

It wouldn't pay anyone to put any effort in trying to improve anything. Just put down anything you can, walk where you wish, and spit on the rest. I wonder if this practice follows you to the woods, crag, mountains, etc.. It feels much better to me to try to contribute good things, with no expectation of any payoff, think positive, and try to conrtibute anything I can, even if it is just the crappiest of the crappy noob websites. I do not think I want to be as elite or grounded as what I have seen in this thread.

RC.com is primarily for n00bs, this place is full of poseurs and the real climbers post on Supertopo. Didn't you guys get the memo?
