He talks about soloing below your level in the beginning of the video, then after he falls says he'll only solo 5.8 and below... the climb he did was only 5.9. I wonder how many times he has to step down the level he's willing to free solo at after falling 30 feet before he stops falling...

there were chicks at the crag, but i'm sure that had nothing to do with his decision to solo the route.

LOL! i'm thinking he should stick to free soloing things at the level he was doing in the last scene...stairs.

I mean, if all we ever do is make fun of their idiocy, they might eventually stop doing these things - and where would that leave us? We would have to find something else to make fun of. Fortunately there's an abundance of these guys running around, so we should have plenty of entertainment for awhile, but let's think about the future generations! Ha, this made me laugh. I think the good news is most of the stupid things people do comes from ego so our laughing at them only encourages them more in an attempt to prove us wrong. I think we;re assured many years of laughing at the feckless attempts of ego driven fools. In fact, it's a wonder men even make it to 20, I seriously have no clue how I survived, I'm just happy I wasn't climbing at that point in my life or I'd have a youtube video with 3,000,000 views of my own too.

This is an area that friends and I developed about 10 years. Its about 15min from my front door. The route is really a 5.6 to a 1 move 5.8 smear move crux. He fell on the right foot smear. Horrible landing zone for this type of "stunt". Crag is on private property, the local community is lucky it didn't go any worse. Could've been a crag closure. I'm glad the guy wasn't hurt any worse. I'm sure he'll think twice before "soloing" again. Better judgment should've been used obviously. This was not planned or setup for the camera, but a true accident. Be fortunate its not your crag and local scene.

You don't free solo to show off. Your ego will lead you right into what you see on that video. And talking about Bachar, making some comparison? Ludicrous. He's damned lucky he's not paralyzed, he came pretty damned close to it on that rock at the bottom. Thanks for posting that. It's a great demonstration of doing it for all the wrong reasons.

Why would one even post a video comparing himself to a legend(who soloed 13's) and then blow it? on a 5.9? i would have burned that footage and crawled into a hole. Im pretty sure bachar didn't solo with a rope in front either. gotta tell ya, actually i dont know what to tell ya. funny video!

Reminds me of Steve-O, or Dubya. I want him to quit climbing so i don't ever bump into him and have to have a conversation.

I've analyzed the video over and over and have come the the conclusion "how to survive a free solo fall" you have to be wearing a beanie.

He paid for his hubris. Videos like this are a harsh reality check of the consequences of the games we play.
