Yawn... More know-it-alls who can't resist the urge to tell others how to climb. This place is more like rockclimbing.com every day.

I use stick clips sometimes... but never past the first bolt. I'd rather look like a puss than break my ankle.

Stick clip or not to stick clip; this is the question! Climbing is the path of least resistance, right? My 2%. Nothing more, nothing less!

Wow. So much testosterone. Yeah, I think stick clipping (up a climb) is lame, but whatever works for the individual. I remember the first time someone gave me a euro spot while working on a boulder problem. I thought, isn't this cheating? I immediately saw the value in it. Maybe these folks find a value in this that can't be understood til you try it. I personally won't try it, and yeah, I will most likely giggle at them if I ever see it.

What ever rocks your boat. Were they having fun? I say who cares, People should be allowed to climb however they want without judgment. If thats there idea of fun and acceptance of risk, so be it. There is nothing wrong with this and if it offends you and it bothers you , well I think a rule book on climbing and what is acceptable by the MP community would be much more offensive.

Stick clips are for pussies. Btw, if anyone has been at Rumney (Waimea) in the past couple weeks, I'm missing my bright yellow one there. Let me know if you have it pls.

Usually then, something clicks in the brain and you can make your body repeat that move on it's own. Make sense? It works.

The other day I was watching Cliffhanger-not in the most clear state of mind-I really wanted the bolt gun (for like 10 seconds)... Then I thought about what routes would look like if there were such a thing. Can you imagine if the stick-clip guy had a bolt gun? Oh man. I am happy with some choice cams and nuts. Another thing that came to mind is: What if the guy actually took a lead fall with the stick clip tied to his back-either he'd impale himself or the belayer/people below. Sounds like a great idea. It is this reason that I am a big fan of routes that have a good runout to the first bolt-They discourage the BS.

Regarding the O.P.: I've done it, and it made me a pussy; along with too much toproping. This thread will serve as a motivational tool for me. Knowing that all you have to do if it gets a little hard is clip off and haul the thing up seriously degrades your mental ability. If you don't fall once in a while, the fear of doing so just builds.

THIS is the way to climb! If you do anything else me & my bras think you're a huge pussy! "Some mountaineers are proud of having done all of their climbs without bivouac. How much they have missed! And the same applies to those who enjoy only rock climbing, or only the ice climbs, only the ridges or the faces. We should refuse none of the thousand and one joys that the mountains offer us at every turn. We should brush nothing aside, set no restrictions. We should experience hunger & thirst, be able to go fast, but also know how to go slowly and to contemplate." -Gaston Rebuffat, Starlight & Storm
