Name Changes?

Original Post

There have been about 4 regular posters here whom have changed their names from their real names in the last several weeks.

What is the reason for this?

You'd have to ask each of the users why they did it -- but I suspect that greater Internet anonymity can be desirable to avoid having your name Googled by current or prospective employers, ex-spouses, etc., and having possibly embarrassing posts on Mountain Project show up...

Ron hit the nail on the head for my name change.

Ditto that reason.

I got a PM explanation from several of you and I am truly sorry this has to be a concern. Thanks for taking the time to explain. I enjoy chating with you all and hope you stick around.

Maybe I should come up with something snappy for a name, hell... I don't even have a picture/avatar.

I was looking to bolster my porn biz.

I'll post up some of my action shots as they relate to each route performed on.

Coniferous, CO is a dead giveaway, M*rk N*ls*n! You need to work with your new-identity team to eliminate all vestiges of your old self!

Also, determined MP sleuths can track down your true identities, since posts where others have quoted you prior to the name change will still have your old name...but for the most part, you'll be safe from Google!

If there were a contest on MP for the Best New Name, who would it be?

I'm leaning towards Legs Magillicutty or Buff Johnson...

I'd vote for VanDeKamps, but that's kind of an insider that nobody would get, eh?
I still say, you can just call me "Master." Won't win any prizes, but it has a nice ring to it.

Think about what you say before you say it and you shouldn't need to hide your name......

Good point Ron, but some of us have a hard time doing that... and those drunken posts just sort of happen now and then... :)

Can I change my name too? Then nobody will be able to find me when they need someone to cry to about the latest flame war.

I'm going stealth.

Then it wouldn't be any fun. You would make it acceptable and therefore not cool anymore.

Way to spoil it for everyone Andy!

But for discussion's sake - what would your new name be?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
