Featured Trad, Sport, Bouldering, and other popular climbing routes and climbing areas Summit, Oregon.
A very mossy, not very pillar-like pillar. Rock quality improves as you go up, but it starts covered in a lot of moss. Quite a lot larger than temptation pillar, and has a lot less moss. Facing North so is very protected from the sun, and is well shaded by Doug Firs. Take the trail down from the pull-off at the corner of the road. Either climb up a short V0 boulder with one bolt on the face, and find anchors hidden at the very top of the pillar to rap down onto a sideways tree that creates a belay ledge. Or walk around the right side of the pillar, seeing temptation pillar on the way down, and wrap around the underside. I would personally recommend walking, it's much faster than rapping and you can pretty easily see where the climb starts.
This is the area for the pillars. I've personally not climbed the pillars. Supposed to be 5 different pillars around the top of the peak. If you know where they are and what the routes are, please add them.As of April 2021, pillars/walls are pretty mossy but have some potential. The main trail direct from the road leads to a rock where you can rap to the bottom of what is currently overgrown mossy rock. Alternatively, you can hike off the the right on another faint trail towards a small pillar and climb that first, there are some good moves to be had. The trail off to the side also leads down to the base of the main wall. I am working on adding some pictures and more helpful directions. Increased traffic at this location would be very good for it. One of the small pillars on Marys. Visible East from Major Tom
