Climbing Near Baker, California

A volcanic cave underground with short, highly featured overhung routes on very sharp rock. Be prepared to brush dust off your cloths, gear and holds (bring a brush). Crash pads would be ideal, though a top rope can be set where the hole in the ceiling is, in the center of the cave's largest room. From Kelbaker Road, drive up the dirt road for 15 minutes until you reach the Lava Tube parking lot and trailhead. Hike up the fire road for 300 ft and then go right where the metal stakes are. Set up a top rope at the first hole in the ground and then walk into the cave down the metal staircase.

This newly established boulder contains one known problem, Freedom. Freedom starts in the obvious cave facing the LeConte Memorial. From the LeConte memorial parking lot head uphill past Cranium Crusher. The Freedom Boulder has a large cave and is on the right side of the building.

Morning shade, short approach with high clearance vehicle. Occupied by ravens during nesting season. All routes may be top-roped by scrambling to the top of the formation and slinging a boulder with a long sling for an anchor. From Ft. Irwin range control, drive north on Barstow rd. until past Bicycle Lake. When in vicinity of Brigade hill take eastbound opportunities towards Moose Gardens. When directly south of the Peanut, turn south and follow major drainage until Conspiracy Wall is in sight on your left. Continue on foot when the risk of damaging your vehicle becomes too uncomfortable (approx. 10min hike).
