Description
The north-western headland of Mingulay with an imposing seaward facing cliffline 1600ft long and up to 400ft tall acts as the island's castle wall to the Atlantic Ocean. Awe inspiring geological features, tens of thousands of sea birds, beautiful pink and orange Gneiss, and hundreds of world class routes make this a premier destination.
Getting There
From Mingulay Bay head north and then west out of camp following a faint climbers trail, aiming for the low point in the hillside to the north west above. From here head north following a slight valley for about 0.3 miles and then head west, traversing the hillside until you reach the top of the cliffs of Guarsay Mor. There are several areas along this cliff which stretches from the Cobweb wall to the south, and the Boulevard to the North. The distinguishing feature of the Great Arch is a great navigational tool, with The Boulevard being just north of here and the great cliffs stretching south, ending at the Cobweb wall just before the cliffs turn into the great inlet of Sloc Ciasgeo. The cliffs here have many nesting seas birds on them, with the routes avoiding the nesting ledges, which are easily distinguised by the collossal amounts of guano. However, be prepared to climb through at least some of the white stuff on these routes.
