Description
A beautiful and imposing needle of rock completely overshadowed by the massive walls of Mount Thor located directly across the Weasel River. With a summit elevation of 1824 meters it’s a spectacular vantage point of Thor, Oden, the Weasel Valley and the endless peaks surrounding the Fork Beard Glacier.
Climbing history seems incomplete. It’s possible this is the peak climbed by Kevin Mclane and Dave McDonald in 1975 by a long ice gully, as it better matches their route description than anything on Northumbria. It definitely was ascended on May 22nd, 1988 by a trio of Italian climbers who named in Menhir after tall upright stones placed by prehistoric cultures in Western Europe.
Regardless, as of 2025 there are three known routes on the peak. A moderate rock climb up the southwest ridge, a challenging aid route up the imposing southeast face and a mixed alpine route on the northeast side that may duplicate the 1975 ascent mentioned above.
