Description Suggest change

Welcome to The Burn, a secluded crag way up on a remote hillside of the East Elk drainage, yet with a very easy approach, offering high quality climbing, one of the best views around in my opinion, also hopefully a little something for everyone to climb on, and maybe even a new route to bolt if one desires. The rock is quite featured, with routes in the cave and right of the cave having drip/tufa features mixed in with plenty of crimps and jugs. It is nice that this place has both warm-ups and projects (10- to 14a) but might be lacking in the 12+ grade ranges as of now. The routes here go from kinda short to verryyyyy long (10m-50m), most of which are of high quality. The crag faces basically due east, so mornings can be toasty, but it's usually windy once on route. The best time to visit is fall, but spring could also be good. The slope keeps providing thanks to Cory Case for finding yet another gem!

The crag is basically three sectors: the left side hosting short bouldery routes, the middle being the warm up zone, and the cave and its flanks containing the harder lines. The left side sees sun for most of the day.

Again, the road is closed from mid Nov to mid May. Approximately.

Getting There Suggest change

Drive on Clinetop Road for about 30 minutes, and park just past Windy Point. There is a big dead tree in the parking on the left. Please park with space for others, because the parking area is quite small. Maybe carpool from the big lots at the base of Clinetop Road.

From there, walk up the road about 50 feet, and locate a trail on the right side that descends into the hillside. The trailhead starts in between two dead fallen trees pointing into the road. The approach is about 20 minutes downhill.
