Description

Solar Wall is across Main Elk Creek from the main crag marked by a pile of large boulders at its left side. There are many more routes here than are published. Plus, there is an endless amount of possibilities the further right you trek up the creek. The approach may seem long, but it takes the same amount of time as Main Elk.

The cliff is south-facing so any season besides summer would be a good time to visit- although the cliff does go into shade in the afternoon during the summer.

Getting There

Either:

A) cross the creek (high water hazard) at a pine tree where a short scree meets the lower trail. Go left along the irrigation ditch until you come to a small, dry wash on your right. Walk up 100 feet to find a path that leads to the right side of the wall or continue past some boulders in the wash to the left side of the crag where you'll find steps leading to the cliff.

B) walk back up Main Elk Road 100 yards to the "No-Parking" signs. Spot a regular cattle gate with a smaller red gate on the right near a telephone pole. This is the start of the Main Elk Trail. Follow the trail for 0.5 miles until you come to a flat, grassy field scattered with bushes. FROM the one swale, turn right, and walk into the field looking for a Mormon Tea bush. Turn right again, and head towards the larger pine tree at the edge of the slope (look for a burnt log notched in it) You'll find a herd path on the right leading left and down towards the crag. The last bit is through oak brush that'll dump you in front of the rock steps at the left side of the wall.
