The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.

Description

The Sting Zone is probably Clear Creek’s best area for quality, hard bouldering. Second only to Nomad by quantity of difficult problems, this collection of blocks holds some of the most amazing, bulletproof stone and beautiful lines in the canyon.

Getting There

The approach to Sting Zone can be a bit tricky. The area sits pretty much at the apex of the river bend around Tunnel 2, so access methods differ. The easiest way to reach these boulders is from parking at Dark Waters/High Wire areas. Walk down below the bridge, and follow a path along the (hopefully) iced over river. If the walking is easy, you’ll see the main boulder just on the hill after about 10 minutes. The zone is on the tunnel side of the valley. If the river isn’t iced, one can also approach from Wall of the '90s or just wade after following the old grade underneath River Wall.
