ALL SEASONAL CLIMBING CLOSURES FOR CLIMBING AND SLACKLINING WILL BE LIFTED ON FRIDAY, JULY 7TH THIS WEEK.
THANKS, EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP IN OBSERVING RESTRICTIONS DURING THE NESTING SEASON!
There are many seasonal raptor closures with varying dates and specific boundaries. These generally effect The Monument, Kiss of the Lepers, Picnic Lunch Wall and/or Smith Rock group, and possibly elsewhere. These usually run from February to the beginning of August, but each closure is usually shorter than this, and is dependent on the birds' behavior. Description
Nearly all day shade
A small grove tucked up away from the road on the right side as you descend into the Zoo grants some easy warmups. Standing across the road from Sugarlumps Ledge/Fourth Area, this squat little wall provides some surprisingly worthwhile easy slab routes.
While only about forty feet in length, these little guys don’t climb as puny as they look at first glance as each line reveals its own little charm. I’m not staying these routes are going to change your life, but they won’t feel like a waste of time.
The pattern of just about every route is the same: thinner slab climbing on good rock leads to steeper crumbly huecos.
This is at once a great place for newer leaders and a perfect hot afternoon locale, nestled back in a little grove of trees providing most-of-the-day shade.
