For more details visit: jeffco.us/open-space/alerts…
The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.
Currently, rock climbing areas that fall inside of the seasonal raptor closures include:
Blonde Formation
Bumbling Stock
Evil Area
Ghost Crag
Highlander
Skinny Legs
Stumbling Block
Tetanus Garden
Fault Caves
Description
Hantavirus is the obvious boulder perched on the canyon’s southern hillside just before New River Wall. It holds two amazing lines and a difficult lower project that has yet to be sent. The rock is absolutely incredible - littered with fantastic pinches, rippled slopers, and perfect crimps. Without a doubt, the two main arete lines on the boulder are some of the coolest at their grade in the canyon. Go get 'em!
Getting There
Park in the obvious pullout on the south side of the canyon, a quarter(ish) mile down canyon of Point Break. The obvious, sharp arete of the boulder is clearly visible from the road. There is no established trail, but a small, patchy climbers trail exists if you can find it. The location is: 39°44'31"N 105°18'29"W.
