Description Suggest change

This describes a cluster of boulders situated along the northern side of Route 29a, just west of the main trail-head. This area has a motley assortment of good small-to-medium boulders, with a few real chonkers smattered in. The upside is that it's only a 1-minute hike to the first large boulder, and a 5-minute hike to the main section. This makes this location ideal for short bouldering trips, and especially after-work bouldering, when one can't afford to make the 30-minute hike in and out of the main Nine Corner Lake bouldering area.

The main section is called the Summit boulders, with 4 medium boulders in close proximity to one large boulder, and a scattering of smaller ones. This is the location pinned on the map. Flatland is a scattering of large, pristine boulders to the west of the Summit boulders, currently being developed by me when I can. There are some beautiful boulders in between the two areas as well, completely undeveloped as far as I'm aware.

If you come here, I encourage you:

Project something new! Project something hard! So far we've only scratched the proverbial surface of possible climbs on this area, and I'd be happier to hear that climbers are making FAs of their own than that they're repeating the climbs we've established. Also, bring a wire brush, as you can expect some gnarly growth on some of the less developed boulders. I don't expect anyone to, but if you could spend a few minutes clearing debris from the trail on your trip they would help make the area more accessible over time!

Getting There Suggest change

This area covers multiple Boulder clusters and individual boulders scattered along the north side of route 29a. To access the Basecamp and Summit Boulders, you have to park on the side of the road just west of the S-Curve on route 29a just south of where this bouldering section is marked on the map. You should see a 'Forest Preserve' Sign on a tree stump on the south side of the road, next to a short cairn (if that held up to the weather.). To access the Flatland Boulders, Park about half a mile west of the S-curve, South of the marker for that area. There should be an orange hi-viz ribbons wrapped around a tree on the north side of the road, along with flat, clear area behind the treeline.

The trails to each boulder cluster from the road are marked with hi-viz orange ribbons and thumbtack trail markers, spaced roughly 30 feet apart. Follow these markers to find the boulder clusters.
