Vermilion Buttress

South-facing 150-metre-ish wall above Vermilion Lakes in the town of Banff. Scrappy lower pitches, good up high. Limestone and marble. Crazy no climbs had been done here. A low rock feature on Mount Norquay. The climbs are adventurous and run out. This is not a wall for newer climbers. The dirty stone isn't fully loose but there are sections of choss. Overall, the rock quality is amazing, full of features and holds, and the gear is solid. Bolts only where they're needed, maybe 15 fixed bolts/pitons in total on the wall. All routes FA'd in spring/summer 2022.

Getting There

Park at the Juniper Hotel and hike the powerline until you can drop down to the crag. Or park at the rest-stop below on the Trans-Canada and drop down to an unlocked gate.
