Description
Passo Del Tonale is at the northern end of the Adamello–Presanella range. It features some of the easier-accessed climbs in the range, and can serve as a launch point, or return point, for some of the longer lines. The ice and mixed routes in the area are reliably in, and are usually some of the first to form and last to melt out.
Getting There
Best accessed from Brescia / Bergamo via the SS42 (SP510 from Brescia, which then meets up with the SS42). The SS42 can be followed all the way through Ponte di Legno to Passo Tonale.
It can also be accessed from Milan via Valtellina, taking the SS36 north along Lake Como, then the SS38 & SS39 through Sondrio to Edolo, where you can then join the SS42. However, this route is longer and much more prone to traffic.
