Description
Perhaps Margalef's most famous sector due to the number of cutting edge climbs that have been established on this short roadside crag. These include Demencia Senil (5.15a/9a+) and First Round, First Minute (5.15b/9b), both Chris Sharma routes made famous by the classic climbing film "Progression". This crag has about 50 routes ranging from 20 to 45 feet in height. For those not climbing in the 5.15 range there are a number of other short powerful routes to experiment with, particularly in the 5.12+(7c) to 5.14-(8b+) range, although the crag does host a few 5.10s, and Can Llepafils located directly above El Laboratori has almost 40 climbs in the 5.7 (4 french scale) to 5.10- (6a) range. El Laboratori gets sun all day and is absolutely best during the winter months.
Getting There
If driving from Margalef towards Lerida turn right after about 1.5km when you see signs for El Panta. This is the road that ends at the reservoir and will pass right next to El Laboratori after about 1.5km of driving from the turnoff. There are parking areas off of the road both directly at the beginning and at the end of the sector. These parking areas are small, but there are several pull-offs on this road and it is possible to park elsewhere and walk.
