ALL SEASONAL CLIMBING CLOSURES FOR CLIMBING AND SLACKLINING WILL BE LIFTED ON FRIDAY, JULY 7TH THIS WEEK.
THANKS, EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP IN OBSERVING RESTRICTIONS DURING THE NESTING SEASON!
There are many seasonal raptor closures with varying dates and specific boundaries. These generally effect The Monument, Kiss of the Lepers, Picnic Lunch Wall and/or Smith Rock group, and possibly elsewhere. These usually run from February to the beginning of August, but each closure is usually shorter than this, and is dependent on the birds' behavior. Description
Seriously intriguing bouldering options abound as well, wherever you look. It just might be a bit of a chore to lug a mat out there in the typically windy conditions.
Getting There
From Skull Hollow Campground, continue out NF-5710 until you see a cattle guard and gate on your left. This gate opens April 1st and closes September 28th. Ascend this road until you past an abandoned car on your right and ascend a short steep section to a four-way intersection. This is where the approach trail begins. Camping spots are to your right.
Follow signs for the Grey Butte Trail heading west towards the mountains. It's about a mile-and-a-half from here to the pinnacle. A mountain bike makes the approach much more enjoyable. Once on the trail, walk down the valley, eventually turning south after passing through a gate. The pinnacle will come into view and you'll continue another few hundred feet until an obvious flat area on your left allows you to cut up towards the boulders. Take a well-worn path up to the base of the south wall.
